Jose Mourinho has rekindled his love affair with English football. Real Madrid’s departure from the Champions League effectively confirmed Mourinho’s departure from La Liga and he duly spoke ­passionately about life in England, hinting at a return to his old club Chelsea.
“I want to be where people love me to be,’’ Mourinho said, after his side defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-0 but lost 4-3 on aggregate. “I know in England I’m loved. I know I’m loved by some clubs, especially one. In England I’m loved by fans and the media treat me in a fair way. I’m fairly criticised or credited when I deserve. In Spain it is a big difference because some people hate me, some even in this [press conference] room.”
Asked whether he had decided his future yet, Mourinho said: “I didn’t make a decision because I have a contract here.
“There is a respect I have for the club and for the president. I want to play the final of the Copa del Rey, win the final, finish the season and then sit down with my friend, my president Florentino Pérez and decide the best for me. It’s difficult to make a ­decision because I like the club and we made a fantastic team that is ready to do big things. I need to be honest and fair. At the end of the season I will speak.”
On whether his side had fulfilled their potential, Mourinho said: “Let’s see if Madrid will win with or without me. If they will win without me, I will be happy anyway. Real Madrid will win the Champions League [for the 10th .
