    अमेरिकी लेखक पॉल बीटी को उनके उपनयास ‘द सेलआउट’ के लिए अंग्रेजी साहित्य के सबसे बड़े सम्मान यानी मैन बुकर पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया है। इसके साथ ही पॉल पहले अमेरिकी लेखक बन गए हैं जिन्हें यह सम्मान मिला है। साहित्यिक पुरस्कार के तहत पॉल को 50,000 पाउंड की राशी दी गई । ‘द सेलआउट’ उपन्यास में एक अफ्रीकी अमेरिकी व्यक्ति की कहानी बयां की गई है। इस उपन्यास में जातिगत समानता के मुद्दे को व्यंग्यात्मक तरीके से परोसा गया है। जूरी की मानें, तो किताब में जिस ढंग से लॉस एजिलिस का चित्रण किया है वो वाकई हैरान करने वाला और मज़ेदार है। उपन्यास के जरीए पॉल ने बेदह ईमानदार और भोले हीरो के जरीए भ्रष्ट दुनिया के प्रति अपना नजरिया रखा है। इस पुरस्कार के लिए जिन लेखकों को छांटा गया था, उनमें दो ब्रितानी, दो अमेरिकी, एक कनाडाई और एक ब्रितानी-कनाडाई लेखक शामिल थे, लेकिन पॉल की ‘द सेलआउट’ ने मैडेलीन थीन के डू नॉट से वी हैव नथिंग समेत पांच उपन्यासों को पछाड़कर यह पुरस्कार अपने नाम किया।
