Jim Carey takes a stand against violence in film, and decides to separate himself from the promotion Kick Ass 2. Carey will be playing Colonel Stars and Stripes in the sequel to the popular action comedy, Kiss Ass 2, but he's had a change of heart since production. The actor finished up his shooting schedule for Kick Ass 2 just a month before the tragedies of the Sandy Hook shooting, and Carey took to his twitter account recently to explain why he is against the themes in his new movie. He said quote 'now, in all good conscience, I cannot support that level of violence.' He also said quote 'My apologies...to others involved with the film. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have cause a change in my heart.' Now, this probably isn't being seen as great promotion for the film, which comes out on August 16th. And while many can appreciate Carey's stance, Kick Ass writer and executive producer Mark Miller is a bit shocked. In a response on his personal blog, Miller said quote 'As you may know, Jim is a passionate advocate of gun-control and I respect both his politics and his opinion, but I'm baffled by this sudden announcement as nothing seen in this picture wasn't in the screenplay eighteen months ago. ' He continued with 'Ironically, Jim's character is a Born Again Christian and the big deal we made of the fact that he refuses to fire a gun is something he told us attracted him to the role in the first place.
