തലച്ചോര്‍ വലുതായതുകൊണ്ട് ഒന്നാമന്‍ ആകണമെന്നില്ലെന്ന് പഠനം. വലിയ തലച്ചോര്‍ ഉള്ളവരില്‍ ബുദ്ധിയും കഴിവും കൂടുമെന്ന ചിന്ത പൂര്‍ണ്ണമായും ശരിയല്ലെന്ന ജേര്‍ണല്‍ സൈക്കോളജിക്കല്‍ സ്റ്റഡിയില്‍ പ്രസിദ്ധികരിച്ച പഠനത്തില്‍ വ്യക്തമാക്കുന്നു. തലച്ചോറിന്റെ വലുപ്പം വളരെ കുറഞ്ഞ ആളവില്‍ മാത്രമാണ് ആളുകളുടെ ബുദ്ധിയെ നിര്‍ണ്ണയിക്കുന്നത്. തലച്ചോറിന്റെ വലുപ്പം കൂടുന്നതനുസരിച്ച് ബുദ്ധിയും ശ്രദ്ധയും കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ ഗ്രഹിക്കാനുള്ള വേഗതയും ഓര്‍മശക്തിയും അറിവ് സമ്പാദിക്കാനുള്ള കഴിവും കാര്യമായി വര്‍ധിക്കില്ല.

20,000 അധികം ആളുകളില്‍ നടത്തിയ പഠനത്തിലാണ് ഈ കണ്ടെത്തല്‍. ചെറിയ തലച്ചോറുള്ളവരെ അപേക്ഷിച്ച് വലിയ തലച്ചോര്‍ ഉള്ളവര്‍ അറിവിലും ഗ്രഹണശക്തിയിലും അല്‍പ്പം മുന്നിട്ട് നില്‍ക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. എന്നാല്‍ ഇത് തമ്മിലുള്ള വ്യത്യാസം പരമാവധി 2 ശതമാനം മാത്രമാണെന്ന് പെന്‍സില്‍വനിയ യൂണിവേഴ്‌സിറ്റി അസിസ്റ്റന്റ് പ്രൊഫസറും ഗവേഷകനുമായ ഗിഡോണ്‍ നാവേ പറയുന്നു. 8000 ലധികം പോസ്റ്റ്മോര്‍ട്ടങ്ങള്‍ നടത്തിയതില്‍ നിന്ന് കണ്ടെത്തിയ കാര്യം പുരുഷന്‍റെ മസ്തിഷ്കത്തിന്‍റെ ശരാശരി ഭാരം 1336 ഗ്രാമും, സ്ത്രീയുടേത് 1198 ഗ്രാമുമാണെന്നാണ്. പ്രപഞ്ചത്തിലെ മറ്റ് ജീവികളുമായി താരതമ്യപ്പെടുത്തുമ്പോള്‍ ആനുപാതികമായ വലുപ്പത്തില്‍ മനുഷ്യന്‍റെ മസ്തിഷ്കമാണ് വലുത്.
മസ്തിഷ്കം ആകെ ഊര്‍ജ്ജത്തിന്‍റെ 20-30% ഉപയോഗപ്പെടുത്തും.
ഒരു ബള്‍ബ് തെളിയിക്കാന്‍ വേണ്ടത്ര ഊര്‍ജ്ജം മസ്തിഷ്കം ഉത്പാദിപ്പിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. ഉണരുന്ന അവസ്ഥയില്‍ ശരാശരി 30-35 വാട്ട്സ് ഉത്പാദിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. മസ്തിഷ്കത്തിന്‍റെ ഏറ്റവും പ്രധാന ഊര്‍ജ്ജ ഉറവിടം ഗ്ലൂക്കോസാണ്. ശരീരത്തിലൂടെ പ്രവഹിക്കുന്ന രക്തത്തിന്‍റെയും ഓക്സിജന്‍റെയും 20% കോട്ടുവായിടല്‍, ബുദ്ധി എന്നിവയ്ക്ക് വേണ്ടി മസ്തിഷ്കം ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു. 7-9 സെക്കന്‍ഡ് നേരത്തേക്ക് ഓക്സിജന്‍ ലഭ
