സി 1322ല്‍ പതിനെട്ടാം വയസില്‍ ദുരൂഹസാഹചര്യത്തില്‍ മരിച്ച തൂത്തന്ഖാമന്റെ കല്ലറ തുറന്നപ്പോള്‍ 11 കിലോ സ്വര്‍ണ്ണത്തില്‍ പൊതിഞ്ഞ മുഖംമൂടിയും സ്വര്‍ണ്ണ ശവപ്പെട്ടിയും വിലമതിക്കാനാവാത്ത രത്‌നങ്ങളും സ്വര്‍ണ്ണശേഖരവും ലഭിച്ചിരുന്നു.ജര്‍മ്മനിയിലെ ടബിംഗന്‍ സര്‍വ്വകലാശാലയിലെ പീറ്റര്‍ ഫാള്സ്നര് എന്ന പ്രൊഫസറുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിലുളള ഗവേഷകസംഘത്തിന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിലാണ് ഇപ്പോള്‍ മമ്മിയുടെ പെട്ടി തുറന്നത്.മമ്മി പെട്ടികള്‍ക്കുള്ളില്‍ നിന്നും കണ്ടെത്തിയത്, ആവനാഴികള്‍, വില്ലുകള്‍ തുടങ്ങിവ അലങ്കരിക്കാന്‍ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്ന നൂറുകണക്കിന് സാമഗ്രികള്‍. പൗരാണിക സിറിയയിലേതെന്ന് കരുതുന്ന ചിത്രങ്ങളുമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു അതില്‍. പരസ്പരം ആക്രമിക്കുന്ന മൃഗങ്ങളും ആടുകളുമാണ് ചിത്രങ്ങളിലുളളത്.
3341 വര്‍ഷം പഴക്കമുളള തൂത്തന്ഖാമന്റെ കല്ലറ കണ്ടെത്തിയത് 1922ലാണ്.

സ്ത്രീയുടെ മൃതദേഹം അടക്കംചെയ്ത, മികച്ച രീതിയില്‍ സംരക്ഷിച്ച മമ്മി ദക്ഷിണ ഇൗജിപ്തിലെ ലക്സര്‍ പട്ടണത്തില്‍നിന്നാണ് കണ്ടെടുത്തത്. ഫ്രാന്‍സില്‍നിന്നുള്ള ഗവേഷകരുടെ സംഘം ഇൗ മാസം ആദ്യത്തിലാണ് രണ്ട് മമ്മികള്‍ കണ്ടെത്തിയത്. ആദ്യത്തെ മമ്മി നേരത്തേ തുറന്ന് പരിശോധിച്ചിരുന്നു.
രണ്ടാമത്തെ മമ്മി ശനിയാഴ്ച തുറന്നപ്പോഴാണ് സ്ത്രീയുടെ മൃതദേഹം കണ്ടെത്തിയത്.
