పోలవరం ప్రాజెక్ట్ లో కీలక ఘట్టం:
జలవిద్యుత్ కేంద్రం ప్రెజర్ టన్నెల్స్ తవ్వకం పనులు మొదలు పెట్టిన మేఘా ఇంజనీరింగ్ సంస్థ.సార్ ప్రిజర్వ్ టన్నెల్ కాదు .
పోలవరం బహుళార్దక సాధక ప్రాజెక్టులో అత్యంతకీలకమైన 960 మెగావాట్ల జలవిద్యుత్ కేంద్రం పనులు వేగవంతం చేసింది ఎపి ప్రభుత్వం. అనుకున్న సమయానికే ప్రాజెక్ట్ పూర్తి చేసేలా పక్కాప్రణాళికతో పోలవరం ప్రాజెక్టు ఫలితాలను రాష్ట్ర ప్రజలకు అందించేందుకు వడివడిగా అడుగులేస్తోంది ప్రభుత్వం.
ప్రతి ఏడాది గోదావరి నది నుంచి మూడు వేల టీ ఎం సి ల నీరు సముద్రంలో కలుస్తుంది. ఇది ఉమ్మడి ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ రాష్ట్రంలో వినియోగించే నీటికన్నా చాలా రేట్లు ఎక్కువ. ఈ నీటిని సద్వినియోగం చేసుకుంటే ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ అన్ని రంగాల్లో అభివృద్ధి సాధించి ముందుకు వెళ్లే అవకాశం ఉంది. ఈ అంశాన్ని దృష్టిలో ఉంచుకొని ప్రభుత్వం పోలవరం ప్రాజెక్ట్ తో పాటు జల విద్యుత్ కేంద్రాన్ని నిర్మించాలని తలపెట్టింది. పోలవరం ప్రాజెక్ట్ నిర్మాణం పూర్తి అయితే 194 టి ఎం సి ల నీటిని నిల్వ చేస్తారు. ఇందులో 120 టి ఎం సి ల నీటిని జల విద్యుత్ ఉత్పత్తి , సాగు నీటి అవసరాలకు వినియోగిస్తారు. మిగిలిన 70 టి ఎం సి లని నిల్వ చేస్తారు. ఈ 120 టి ఎం సి ల నీటిని గోదావరి నదీ పరివాహక ప్రాంతం లో ముఖ్యంగా తూర్పు, పశ్చిమ గోదావరి,కృష్ణా జిల్లాల ప్రజల సాగు, తాగు నీటి అవసరాలకు వినియోగించవచ్చు.
పోలవరం ప్రాజెక్ట్ కుడి, ఎడమ కాలువల కింద 10. 5 లక్షల ఎకరాల భూమి సాగు అవుతుంది. దీన్ని స్థిరీకరించేందుకు పోలవరం జల వ్రిద్యుత్ కేంద్రం ద్వారా ఉత్పత్తి అయ్యే విద్యుత్కు వాడే నీటిని ఉపయోగిస్తారు. గోదావరి నీటిని నిల్వ చేసే అవకాశాలు ఆంధ్ర ప్రదేశ్ లో ఒక పోలవరం ప్రాజెక్ట్ వద్ద తప్ప మరెక్కడా లేవు. సర్ ఆర్ధర్ కాటన్ బ్యారేజ్ వద్ద నిల్వ అవకాశాలు ఉన్నా అది చాలా తక్కువ. ఈ నేపథ్యంలో పోలవరం వద్ద నీటిని నిల్వ చేసి పలు ప్రయోజనాలకు ఈ నీటిని వినియోగించనున్నారు. అందులో ఈ జల విద్యుత్ కేంద్రం ఒకటి. గోదావరి నదిపై ఆంధ్ర ప్రదేశ్ లో ఎక్కడా భారీ జల విద్యుత్ కేంద్రాలు లేవు. వున్న ఒకటి, రెండు కూడా చాలా తక్కువ సామర్ధ్యం తో ఉన్నాయి. . పోలవరం లో ఉత్పత్తి చేసే విద్యుత్ వల్ల రాష్ట్రం మిగులు సాధించే అవకాశం ఉంది. దీన్ని మన రాష్ట్ర అవసరాలు పోను విక్రయిస్తే ఆదాయం వస్తుంది. అదే సమయంలో నూతన పరిశ్రమల ఏర్పాటుకు అవకాశం ఉంది. ద
