ഫാര്‍മസ്യൂട്ടിക്കല്‍സ് ഭീമന്‍ ജോണ്സണ് ആന്‍ഡ് ജോണ്സണ് അമേരിക്കന്‍ കോടതി 32000 കോടി രൂപ പിഴ വിധിച്ചു
ആസ്‌ബെറ്റോസ് കലര്‍ന്ന ടാല്‍ക്കം പൗഡര്‍ ഉപയോഗിച്ചതിനെ തുടര്‍ന്ന് 22 സ്ത്രീകള്‍ക്ക് കാൻസര്‍ ബാധിച്ച കേസിലാണ് കോടതിയുടെ വിധി. ആറാഴ്ച നീണ്ടു നിന്ന വിചാരണക്ക് ശേഷമാണ് കോടതി പിഴ വിധിച്ചത്. വ്യക്തി ശുചിത്വത്തിന് ഉപയോഗിച്ച കമ്പനിയുടെ ടാല്‍ക്കം പൗഡറാണ് കാൻസറിന് കാരണമായതെന്ന് പരാതിക്കാര്‍ വ്യക്തമാക്കി. കഴിഞ്ഞ 40 വര്‍ഷമായി തങ്ങളുടെ ഉല്‍പ്പന്നങ്ങളിലെ ആസ്‌ബെറ്റോസിന്റെ സാന്നിദ്ധ്യം മറച്ചുവെക്കുകയായിരുന്നെന്ന് പരാതിക്കാരുടെ അഭിഭാഷകന്‍ മാര്‍ക്ക് ലാനിയര്‍ വ്യക്തമാക്കി. ഈ വിധി തങ്ങളുടെ ഉല്‍പ്പന്നങ്ങളിലെ ആസ്ബറ്റോസ് അണ്ഡാശയ ക്യാന്‍സറിന് കാരണമാകുമെന്ന മുന്നറിയിപ്പ് പൊതുജനങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് നല്‍കാന്‍ കമ്പനിയെ പ്രേരിപ്പിക്കുമെന്ന് പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുന്നതായി ലാനിയര്‍ കൂട്ടിചേര്‍ത്തു. എന്നാല്‍ വിധി നിരാശാജനകമാണെന്നും തങ്ങളുടെ ഉല്‍പ്പന്നങ്ങളില്‍ ആസ്‌ബെറ്റോസിന്റെ സാന്നിദ്ധ്യം ഇല്ലെന്നും ജോൺസൺ ആന്‍ഡ് ജോൺസൺ പ്രതികരിച്ചു.

Researchers at University College London have found in a modelling study that screening according to risk would reduce the number of women who are put through unnecessary tests and treatment for breast cancer without substantially increasing the numbers who are missed.
Only 72% of women invited to breast screening actually go. The UCL researchers say that genetic testing and informing each women of her individual risk could result in just the 70% at highest risk being screened, while the low risk 30% are not given an invitation to have a mammogram every three years as they are now.
