20,000 അധികം ആളുകളില്‍ നടത്തിയ പഠനത്തിലാണ് ഈ കണ്ടെത്തല്‍. ചെറിയ തലച്ചോറുള്ളവരെ അപേക്ഷിച്ച് വലിയ തലച്ചോര്‍ ഉള്ളവര്‍ അറിവിലും ഗ്രഹണശക്തിയിലും അല്‍പ്പം മുന്നിട്ട് നില്‍ക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. എന്നാല്‍ ഇത് തമ്മിലുള്ള വ്യത്യാസം പരമാവധി 2 ശതമാനം മാത്രമാണെന്ന് പെന്‍സില്‍വനിയ യൂണിവേഴ്‌സിറ്റി അസിസ്റ്റന്റ് പ്രൊഫസറും ഗവേഷകനുമായ ഗിഡോണ്‍ നാവേ പറയുന്നു. 8000 ലധികം പോസ്റ്റ്മോര്‍ട്ടങ്ങള്‍ നടത്തിയതില്‍ നിന്ന് കണ്ടെത്തിയ കാര്യം പുരുഷന്‍റെ മസ്തിഷ്കത്തിന്‍റെ ശരാശരി ഭാരം 1336 ഗ്രാമും, സ്ത്രീയുടേത് 1198 ഗ്രാമുമാണെന്നാണ്. പ്രപഞ്ചത്തിലെ മറ്റ് ജീവികളുമായി താരതമ്യപ്പെടുത്തുമ്പോള്‍ ആനുപാതികമായ വലുപ്പത്തില്‍ മനുഷ്യന്റെ മസ്തിഷ്കമാണ് വലുത്.
മസ്തിഷ്കം ആകെ ഊര്‍ജ്ജത്തിന്‍റെ 20-30% ഉപയോഗപ്പെടുത്തും.
