The 2019-21 cycle of the World Test Championship saw the final being played between India and New Zealand at Southampton where Kiwis walked away with the ultimate glory. As the next cycle of WTC for India is all set to commence with their five-match Test series against England, the schedule for their further fixtures is out for the public. India’s high-profile clash against the English team will commence on August 04.
After playing England in their home, India would rub off shoulders against New Zealand in a two-match Test series in India. It would be followed up by another big clash where Australia and India will fight out in a four-match series in India. After this series, India will pack bags for South Africa to lock horns with them in the three-match series.
The next fixture for Virat Kohli and his men will unfold against Sri Lanka in home conditions while fighting it out in three games. Finally, India will move to Bangladesh to play two-match Test series against the home team. The extensive schedule of India got out on the table after the new points system came into effect. It has to be noted that the percentage system which was followed in the last cycle of WTC received a lot of flak for not being uniform at all.
From now, every win in the WTC would be awarded 12 points, four for a draw match and six points for a tie. Countries also went on to add that they didn’t get a fair chance to compete in the WTC owing to the percentage points system. However, ICC Acting Chief Executive Geoff Allardice cleared his say on the matter.
“We received feedback that the previous points system needed to be simplified. The Cricket Committee took this into consideration when proposing a new, standardized points system for each match. It maintained the principle of ensuring that all matches in a WTC series count towards a team’s standing, while accommodating series varying in length between two Tests and five Tests,” stated Geoff Alla.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced its Men’s ODI team for the year 2021. No Indian players have been included in the team. To everyone’s surprise, Pakistan’s explosive opening batter Fakhar Zaman is slated at number four. He hasn’t batted at that position in his ODI career. The opening pair in the team is Paul Stirling and Janneman Malan. These players open the innings for Ireland and South Africa respectively.
The skipper of the team is Babar Azam, who also leads Pakistan in all formats of the game. Proteas batter Rassie van der Dussen has also made it to the eleven. Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and wicketkeeper batter Mushfiqur Rahim have also been included in the side.
Australia have become the number one Test team after they thrashed England in the Ashes by 4-0 at home. Meanwhile, India has dropped to number three spot after losing the three-match Test series against South Africa by 2-1. India were leading the series after winning the boxing day Test in Centurion. South Africa made a comeback in Johannesburg and won the second game by eight wickets. In the last game, the Dean Elgar-led side won the game by seven wickets and maintained the 100 percent series win record at home against India.
Australia are all set for a historic tour to Pakistan in March-April 2022 which will consist of three Tests and as many ODIs with one-off T20I. The significance of this tour is considerably high given that Australia will touring the Asian country after 24 long years. In the same line of events, Pakistan’s ace batter Mohammad Rizwan added that he is quite happy to know positive statements from Australia cricketers regarding this tour and that they are ready to welcome them.

Even as the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is closing in on its climax, the UAE is gearing up to host the much-awaited T20 World Cup. The qualifying round will see eight teams fighting it out from October 17 to 22. The top eight teams are already qualified for the Super 12 round and those sides, during this period will get into the groove with warm-up matches.
The schedule for the same has been announced and the matches will be played only on two days, October 18 and 20 with four matches taking place on each day. Every side will get to play two matches each in the lead up to the Super 12 round starting from October 23.
Former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi was in awe of Virat Kohli’s dedication during a net session. On Tuesday, October 5, Kohli, who’s currently playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2021 Indian Premier League, posted a video where he can be seen batting in the nets. Kohli must be high on confidence as the Challengers have already made their way through to the playoffs.
Although Kohli has strained a wee bit with the bat in hand, he has led the team with dignity. Placed at No.3 in the points table, RCB are set to play their next league game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday, October 6 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. They also have the chance of toppling Chennai Super Kings, led by MS Dhoni, to the second position in the table.
Australia’s white-ball captain Aaron Finch has confirmed David Warner will open the batting alongside him for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021, which is set to begin on October 17. The news comes after the southpaw was dropped from the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Warner’s form this season has not been good for the franchise in orange and that has led to the management sacking him as the captain during the India leg of the IPL this year.
Since then, the southpaw also withdrew from Australia’s two

New developments and reports reveal that the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) had let in two extra persons, beyond the 40 that were registered for housekeeping, during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match on May 2. Incidentally, Delhi police had nabbed two corruptors, who were identified as Krishan Garg of Swaroop Nagar and Manish Kansal of Jalandhar in Punjab, for indulging in ‘betting’ during the said match.
The bookies entered the stadium using forged accreditation cards and were charged under the relevant provision of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Epidemic Disease Act, currently operational owing to the rampant spread of Covid-19 in the nation. During official interrogation, neither of them was able to satisfactorily respond about their presence in the gallery of the VIP lounge inside the stadium.
“There were 40 persons who had the permission to get into the Arun Jaitley Stadium for housekeeping during IPL matches at Delhi’s Aun Jaitley Stadium. However, these two individuals, who were arrested by Delhi Police, managed to get into the stadium,” a DDCA, official close to the developments, told in an interaction.
“So, there were 42 eventually who managed to get in. The contracted worker – a cleaner – who led to the arrest of these two was however, part of the 40 that were registered. The police are investigating the matter. It could lead to someone within the association. The responsibility lies with the DDCA Administrator (HR) Neeraj Sharma since all the passes and accreditation go through him,” said the official.
While Sharma had told on Wednesday that the DDCA will investigate the matter, on Thursday he said he can’t speak on the matter, but would do so later.
Meanwhile, Shabbir Hussain Khandwawala, chief of the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s Anti-Corruption Unit, told in an interview on Thursday that he believed DDCA was responsible for providing accreditation to the two individuals who h

The International Cricket Council has put forth the itinerary for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates and Oman. The tournament was set to take place in India but had to be moved due to COVID-19 hassles. The event will take place from October 17 to November 14.
The tournament will start with the Round 1 matches, comprising Group A and B. Group A features Sri Lanka, Ireland, the Netherlands and Namibia. Group B has Bangladesh, Scotland, Papua New Guinea and Oman. Thereafter, the Super 12, consisting of Group 1 and Group 2 will be held.
Earlier in July, Jay Shah, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, launched the T20 World Cup in Muscat, Oman. Oman is one of the hosts and therefore, it was learned that the Oman Cricket Academy could host six matches of Group B in Round 1.
The BCCI was in charge of deciding the schedule and the allocation of games was at its discretion. The decision to host the matches in Oman was said to have taken place during a meeting in Delhi.
“I am particularly delighted to be in Oman. As a major force in world cricket, the BCCI has always endeavoured to promote and assist Associate Nations. In my capacity as Asian Cricket Council President, my vision is to take cricket far and deep into Asia.
Previously, Sourav Ganguly, the BCCI president, Jay Shah, Rajiv Shukla, the BCCI vice-president, Arun Dhumal, the BCCI treasurer, and an ICC team went to Oman to recce the playing conditions at the venue.
Oman was picked as the venue since hosting the matches only in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah wasn’t deemed feasible by the who’s who of the BCCI and ICC. In the meantime, it was also reported that the ICC could allow crowds at venues for the mega event.

The much awaited World Test Championship (WTC) final between India and New Zealand finally got underway on Saturday. New Zealand won the toss and opted to bowl first as they didn’t name any spinner in their line-up looking at the overcast conditions in Southampton. The opening day of the Test was washed out due to rain but with reserve day in place, all the efforts will be made to eke the result out of this game.
Meanwhile, as the Indian players walked out for the national anthem, they were seen wearing black armbands. The reason for the same is the demise of the legendary Indian athlete Milkha Singh, aged 91. He passed away late on Friday night due to COVID-19 complications and the Indian team is paying respect to him for what he achieved for his country over the years.
Meanwhile, India didn’t make any changes to their playing XI announced a couple of days ago. Many thought they might look to include either an extra batsman or a seamer at the expense of one of the spinners. But the skipper Virat Kohli clarified at the toss that the thought didn’t even cross his mind as the team has done well over the years irrespective of the conditions.
“We would’ve probably bowled first as well. But runs on the board has been our strength. In a big final, runs on the board, however many, are an advantage. As you saw the makeup of our side, the balance is such that we prepare for any conditions. We’ve been performing really well in Test cricket. For us this is just a Test match we have to be professional in, have to follow our processes,” Kohli said.

India is all set to travel to England for the final of the World Test Championship in the month of June and BCCI has put out some strict rules for the high-profile tour. The Indian board has made it clear to all the players that if any player is found positive on his arrival in Mumbai, he will be straightaway dropped from the WTC final and England series squad.
All the players are expected to complete their mandatory quarantine period of eight days in the Mumbai bio bubble before flying to England. The board has asked players to quarantine themselves at home before landing in Mumbai. The Indian contingent will leave for the WTC final and the subsequent England series on June 2, 2021.
The Indian cricket team’s success has been on a wide display for one and all to see. Under the leadership of MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, the team has stood well ahead of all the competing nations in the last decade, and their recent triumphs in Australia and the subsequent one against England at home have ticked almost every box.
Sri Lanka cricket is all set for a fresh beginning in the ODI format with a new captain and vice-captain in charge of the team. The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced an 18-member squad that will tour Bangladesh for the three ODIs in Dhaka. Kusal Perera, the wicketkeeper-batsman, who was dropped from the team just a few months prior, has been named the new captain, replacing Dimuth Karunaratne.
