BEAUMONT - By Megan Dillard - While the presidential race consumes most of our attention the national spotlight tonight is also shining on a congressional race in southeast Texas. Democrat Nick Lampson is running for the District 14 seat against Randy Weber, a Republican. Lampson has represented this area in the past. He called on former president Bill Clinton to help in the heated battle. Clinton's last visit to southeast Texas was in February 2008 when he campaigned for his wife Hillary Clinton. Tonight he was here to help Lampson. 'Welcome President Bill Clinton.' It's been four years since former president Bill Clinton has come to southeast Texas. His plane landed in Jefferson County Tuesday evening. 'I'm glad to be back in Beaumont.' President Clinton came to the Vincent Beck Stadium in Beaumont to endorse Nick Lampson, who is running for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. 'The former president, William Jefferson Clinton.' About 3,500 people showed up to support both men. Some, like Sharae Sass came early to get a good spot. 'I believe everything that Bill says and I trust his gut, so if he backs this man, then I think he's the best candidate for this job.' The former president praised Lampson. 'Look, it was a joy working with Nick Lampson.' Clinton also addressed how Republicans view issues like national debt. 'They act like it was something that just poof appeared when Barack Obama bec.
