It has been 200 years since some of the world's favourite fairy tales, translated into most major languages, were first published. Grimm's Fairy Tales was first published in 1812 by the Grimm brothers, Jacob and Wilhelm in German.
The Grimm's Fairy Tales collection, is one of the most influential collection of folk lore in the world. The stories were published in two volumes, Kinder- und Hausmarchen (1812-15); 'Children's and Household Tales'. The first English translation was titled German Popular Tales. Most of the stories were were adopted from oral sources.
There are about 200 stories in Grimm's Fairy Tales and the most famous of them include Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Hansel and Gretel, Tom Thumb, Rapunzel, The Golden Goose, and Rumpelstiltskin.

The Brothers Grimm created countless folktales in their lifetime, but we chose to focus on just one-Red Riding Hood. Our initial concepts suggested an opportunity to try a comic book format where the viewer could pan through the story themselves. Ours is a contemporary take on the tale with flattened designs and an alternative ending!

Google has featured a multi-part doodle on its homepage as a tribute on the 200th anniversary of Grimm's Fairy Tales.
Grimm's Fairy Tales is the popular name of a 19th century German book called Children's and Household Tales (Kinder und Hausmärchen in German). The book was written by German brothers Jacob Ludwig Carl Grimm and Wilhelm Carl Grimm.
In Grimm's Fairy Tales, the Grimm brothers collected many of Europe's most popular fairy tales including Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Hansel and Gretel, The Frog-Price, Goldilocks And The Three Bears, Rapunzel, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Rumpelstiltskin and many, many others.
The first volume of the first edition of Grimm's Fairy Tales was published in 1812 containing 86 stories; the second volume of 70 stories followed in 1814. The seventh and final edition under the brothers' watch was published in 1857 and it contained 211 stories split across two volumes.
These editions were extensively illustrated by Philipp Grot Johann, whose work on Grimm's Fairy Tales is considered as amongst the finest of his career. Some of these illustrations are mildly humorous, such as the one in The Devil With the Three Golden Hairs where the devil is pictured reading a newspaper which, on closer examination, is a stock market letter. Robert Leinweber took over illustration duties for the latter editions after Johann's death in 1892.

Today's Google Doodle is a dedication to Hawaiian-American competition swimmer, Duke Kahanamoku. He was a five-time Olympic medalist in swimming.
He was also an actor, lawman, beach volleyball player, and businessman credited with spreading the sport of surfing.
Kahanamoku had qualified for the US Olympic swimming team in 1912. At the Summer Olympics in Stockholm that year, he won a gold medal in the 100-meter freestyle, and a silver medal in the men's 4x200-meter freestyle relay.
He finished the 100 meters with a silver medal during the 1924 Olympics in Paris. At age 34, this was Kahanamoku's last Olympic medal. He also was an alternate for the US water polo team at the 1932 Summer Olympics.
Between Olympic competitions, and after retiring from the Olympics, Kahanamoku traveled internationally to give swimming exhibitions. It was during this period that he popularized the sport of surfing, previously known only in Hawaii, by incorporating surfing exhibitions into these visits as well.
While living in Newport Beach, California on June 14, 1925, Kahanamoku had rescued eight men from a fishing vessel that had capsized in heavy surf while attempting to enter the city's harbor.
Kahanamoku's name is also used by Duke's Canoe Club & Barefoot Bar, a beachfront bar and restaurant in the Outrigger Waikiki On The Beach Hotel. There is a chain of restaurants named
