In what can be called a major blow for Kolkata Knight Riders, Pat Cummins has been ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 due to a hip injury. As a result, the Australian Test captain has left the team’s bio-bubble to head towards Sydney. Meanwhile, Cummins’ injury isn’t too serious and he’s expected to regain full fitness within a couple of weeks.
As the talismanic fast bowler has been rested for the T20I series against Sri Lanka next month, his fitness issues aren’t likely to hamper the national team’s plans. He anyway is expected to be available for the ODI and Test tour of Sri Lanka. However, his ouster might hamper KKR’s chances of going through to the playoffs. After warming the benches for few games, Cummins made a thunderous return to KKR line-up recently, scalping a match-winning three-wicket haul.
Hence, the Shreyas Iyer-led side would largely miss his services. Meanwhile, this major report was carried out by cricket.com.au. It also must be noted that KKR have endured a hard time in the competition and are currently reeling at the seventh place with five victories in 12 outings. They only have an outside chance to qualify for the playoffs and Cummins’ exit has diminished that as well.
KKR now need to win their remaining two games with significant margins alongside depending upon other match results. With Cummins not being in the scheme of things anymore, KKR will depend upon the likes of Shivam Mavi, Umesh Yadav and Tim Southee to handle the pace-bowling department.
Meanwhile, Australia’s full-fledged tour of Sri Lanka will get underway on June 7 with the first of the three T20Is. It will be followed by five ODIs and a couple of Test matches. Cummins, who has done exceptionally well in his recent international assignments, would like to extend his fine form and display some more match-winning performances. Former Indian batter Yuvraj Singh was surprised by the exclusion of Pat Cummins from the playing XI for the Kolkata Knight Riders for the game against Delhi Capitals. The Australian all-rounder was dropped from the lineup in the previous game with Tim Southee taking his pace and the latter went on to pick three wickets to keep his place in the side.
Cummins pulled off a stunning inning against the Mumbai Indians earlier with a 14-ball 50 and equaled the record of the fastest half-century of all time in IPL as well. However, apart from the match-winning knock with the bat, Cummins has failed to live up to his reputation with the ball and has been quite expensive at the back end of the innings. To add to his woes, he wasn’t getting enough wickets in the powerplay as well and it piled up a lot of pressure on him.
However, legendary batter Yuvraj wasn’t convinced by Cummins’s omission and noted that he was surprised to see the Australian on the bench unless he is injured. He felt that Cummins being a world-class all-rounder will win more games more often than not even if he misfires in a few of the matches.
Earlier Delhi Capitals won the toss and chose to bowl first at the Wankhede Stadium. KKR made three changes to their lineup with Baba Indrajith and Harshit Rana making their IPL debuts while Aaron Finch came into the lineup in place of Sam Billings. Shivam Mavi and Varun Chakravarthy had to miss out on the playing XI for KKR while Delhi Capitals presented the first opportunity to Chetan Sakariya this season.

Australian quick Pat Cummins stayed with his former team Kolkata Knight Riders, bagging an INR 7.25 crore deal on the first day of the IPL 2022 mega auction. Cummins, who was slotted in as one of the ten marquee players that set the auction ball rolling, attracted bids from KKR and both new members Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants before KKR occupied him.
Cummins, who recently led Australia to a more-than-convincing 4-0 victory in the home Ashes, has 38 wickets at an average and strike rate of 30.13 and 21.95 in his 37-match IPL career. He could well double-up with the bat with quick runs at the backend of the innings – as his batting strike rate of nearly 141 suggests – apart from being a part of the leadership group, if not the captain itself.

Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Chennai Super Kings by six wickets in the 33rd match of IPL 11 played at Eden Gardens Stadium on Thursday. Dinesh Karthik's KKR team has reached the third spot in the points table with five wins from nine matches defeating Chennai. Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings have 12-12 points. While Kings XI Punjab is at number four with ten points.
However, with the target of 178 runs, Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine started the innings of KKR team. But Lynn returned to the pavilion at just 12 runs. Lungi Angadi caught him by Shane Watson The KKR team was certain that Robin Uthappa also got out after scoring six runs. He was caught by Dwayne Bravo on KM Asif's ball. KKR got the third blow as Opener Sunil Narine, who got out after scoring 32 runs. Narine was caught by Ravichandran Jadeja off Dwayne Bravo. He faced 20 balls in his innings and hit four fours and two sixes.
KKR's fourth wicket, Rinku Singh dropped, Harbhajan Singh scored his 16 runs score. While young batsman Shubhaman Gill played for the Kolkata, with an unbeaten 57 runs in 36 balls with six fours and two sixes. Captain Dinesh Karthik scored an unbeaten 45 in 18 balls with seven fours and a six. Eventually, Kolkata achieved this target by losing four wickets in 17.4 overs. Sunil Narine was selected as Man of the Match.
For Chennai, Lungi Angadi, KM Asif, Ravindra Jadeja and Harbhajan Singh took one wicket each.
