Kevin Pietersen reacts to Virat Kohli's poor form and more cricket news

Virat Kohli’s horrendous run in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 continues as he bagged his second successive golden duck on Saturday (April 23). In the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, the veteran Royal Challengers Bangalore batter edged Marco Jansen’s outgoing delivery to slips and walked back in utter disappointment. In fact, his tally of 119 runs is his lowest after eight games in an IPL season.

As the Delhi-born batter has mustered a plethora of runs in his illustrious career, the entire cricket world is stunned with his regular failures. His last century in professional cricket was recorded way back in November 2019. Giving his take on Kohli’s rough patch, former England captain Kevin Pietersen reckons the Indian batter is in a ‘dark place’ and one can only hope that his lean patch gets over.

“I think he is at point and having been at that point in my career on a couple of occasions, it is not nice. It is a very lonely, lonely place especially when you have all eyes on you. Every single thing is Kohli, Kohli and Kohli. He is in that dark place, I just hope it ends quickly because the game needs him to score runs,” Pietersen told Star Sports.

Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar, who was a part of the same panel, said it’s hard to talk about Kohli’s form as he’s getting out in just first few balls. He, however, reckons the team management needs to have a word with the 33-year-old regarding his performance..

Kevin Pietersen reacts on Liam Livingstone’s colossal 117-metre strike and more cricket news

Liam Livingstone left the cricket world in awe on Tuesday (May 3), smoking the biggest six of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 so far. The Punjab Kings batter took on Gujarat Titans pacer Mohammed Shami in the 16th over of the innings and smoked a gigantic 117-metre six over deep square leg. Even Shami was impressed with the hit while PBKS skipper Mayank Agarwal couldn’t believe his eyes.

Former England captain Kevin Pietersen, who was in the commentary panel, was among many to praise the Englishman for the astonishing strike. Pietersen, who was himself known for his big-hitting capabilities, admitted he has never seen a six longer than that of Livingstone. “I have never seen a six as big as that one”, said the former England international.

Meanwhile, Livingstone’s arrival at the crease escalated the proceedings as the dasher wasted no time whatsoever and took PBKS over the line. He gathered 28 runs of Shami’s over and finished with an unbeaten 30 off just 10 deliveries. As a result, the Mayank Agarwal-led side chased down the target of 144 in just 16 overs, clinching the contest by eight wickets.

“Swinging hard enough. I didn’t think I was going to bat at one point, nice to go out and hit a few out the middle. I thought Shikhar played beautifully to set it up, and Bhanu [Rajapaksa] with that partnership. It was a big win for us and we needed it, we have played some bad cricket in the last couple of games and it is nice to turn it around,” said Livingstone after the game.

“We know our roles and also if Mayank is there [in the middle-order] we have more stability. It is all about learning, it is hard to go in and play the way we wanted to as a new team. We played a bit smarter today and you have to play like that on such pitches,” he added.

PCB Reportedly Received 27 Lakh Biryani Bill, Pietersen On Warner's Nightmares And More Cricket News

New Zealand’s much-awaited tour of Pakistan was called off in an unfortunate manner. Although the Kiwi team landed in Pakistan for three ODIs and five T20Is, they were called back without playing a single match. The New Zealand Cricket Board (NZC) cited security concerns behind the sudden cancellation of the tour. Notably, this would have been the New Zealand cricket team’s first national assignment on Pakistan soil since 2004.

With the significance of this series being so high, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had made several preparations. However, they faced disappointment as the tour was called off. As per the latest development, PCB are set to endure huge financial losses due to the cancellation of the series. In fact, the cricket board is staring at a hefty amount just to pay the food bills of security officials hired for the Kiwi team.

Recently, New Zealand Cricket abandoned their white-ball series against Pakistan citing security threats. The PCB, however, denied any such threats and assured the visiting team about the same. Soon after this, ECB also announced that it has withdrawn the men’s and women’s team from tours of Pakistan in October. Prime Minister Imran Khan thus met Pakistan’s T20 team ahead of the upcoming World Cup to boost the morale of the players.

The players arrived at the PM’s office wherein the PCB Chairman was also present. The meeting was held in the backdrop of the recent events wherein New Zealand and England pulled out from the series against the nation. As per sources, PM Imran Khan advised the players to play fearless cricket in the upcoming T20 World Cup. He also pinned his hopes on the nation hosting international cricket soon.

Kevin Pietersen also opined that David Warner would have thought on the day before the match that he would find it difficult to find a way out against the likes of Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada. Pietersen concluded by stating that Nortje was successful in knocking over Davi
