തമിഴ്‌നാട്ടിൽ മാസമുറയെ തുടർന്ന് ഓലപ്പുരയിൽ താമസിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്ന പതിനാലു വയസുക്കാരി തെങ്ങ് വീണു മരിച്ചു.ആനെക്കാട് പാട്ടുക്കോട്ടൈ ഗ്രാമത്തിലെ സെൽവരാജിന്റെ മകൾ വിജയ എന്ന ഏഴാം ക്ലാസ്സുകാരിക്കാണ് ദാരുണാന്ത്യം. മാസമുറയെ തുടർന്ന് ആചാര പ്രകാരം പെൺകുട്ടിയെ വീടിനു വെളിയിൽ ഓലപ്പുരയിൽ പ്രത്യേകം താമസിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. ഗജ ചുഴലി കാറ്റിന് മുന്നറിയിപ്പ് നൽകിയെങ്കിലും മാതാപിതാക്കളോ ബന്ധുക്കളോ വെളിയിൽ പാർപ്പിച്ചിരുന്ന പെൺകുട്ടിയെ മാറ്റിപ്പാർപ്പിച്ചിരുന്നില്ല.
കാറ്റിനെ തുടർന്ന് പേടിച്ച കുട്ടിയുടെ നിലവിളി 16 നു രാത്രിയോടെ കേട്ടിരുന്നതായി സമീപവാസികൾ പറയുന്നു. തെങ്ങു ഓലപുരയ്ക്കു മേൽ വീഴുകയും പെൺകുട്ടി തെങ്ങിനടിയിൽ ഞെരിഞ്ഞമരുകയുമാണ് ഉണ്ടായത്. കുട്ടിയെ മണിക്കൂറുകൾ നീണ്ട പരിശ്രെമതിമനൊടുവിലാണ് പുറത്തെടുത്തത്. ആചാരങ്ങൾക്ക് വേണ്ടി മകളെ ബലികൊടുത്തുവെന്നു പെൺകുട്ടിയുടെ അച്ഛൻ കണ്ണീരോടെ പറയുന്നു.
സംഭവത്തിൽ പോലീസ് കേസ് രജിസ്റ്റർ ചെയ്തിട്ടില്ല.
