Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has been appointed as the vice President of the party. The decision came today after the meeting of the Congress Working Committee held in Jaipur on Saturday evening. During the ongoing Chintan Shivir of the party many Congress leaders, Youth Congress and NSUI leaders demanded a bigger role for Rahul Gandhi.
Several Union Ministers and senior Congress leaders also batted for larger responsibility for Rahul Gandhi as the party recognised the need to respond to the demands of new changing India peopled by a more young generation. There is a feeling among many Congress leaders that attending the Shivir that more youths should be empowered. There are also demands within the party that Rahul Gandhi should be declared Congress' PM candidate before the party goes to next Lok Sabha polls..
