David Miller powered Gujarat Titans into the IPL 2022 finals with a stellar knock against his former team Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 1. The Men in Pink posted a formidable 188/6 while batting first at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata and looked on command at halfway mark. However, GT batters put up a strong show and took their side to a seven-wicket triumph.
While several batters contributed to Titans’ victory, Miller was the stand-out performer. Coming to bat at number five, the southpaw took some time to settle his feet before unleashing an onslaught. From Yuzvendra Chahal to Trent Boult, the South African international spared none. In fact, he smashed Prasidh Krishna for three successive sixes in the last over to seal the deal for the Titans.
With the help of three boundaries and five sixes, Miller scored an unbeaten 68 off 38 deliveries as GT crossed the line with three balls to spare. Meanwhile, the Proteas star came up with an apology on Twitter after demolishing his former franchise. “Sorry #RoyalsFamily,” tweeted the 32-year-old and the post went viral in no time.
Notably, Miller was associated with the Royals in 2020 and 2021 but spent most of his time warming the benches. Unsurprisingly, he was released by the franchise ahead of this year’s mega auction and the Titans bagged his services for INR 3 crore. Unlike the last few seasons, Miller has been a regular face in the GT playing XI and the move has paid dividends.
Following the conclusion of the game, Miller himself admitted that regular opportunities have helped him to put up such a stellar show this season. “I think opportunity, firstly (what’s changed?). I’ve been given a role, I felt extremely backed from the outset. My personal game – I’m enjoying my role, I’ve been playing for many years now,” the southpaw told Star Sports after the match.
