A MEXICAN girl aged nine has given birth to a girl of her own, local authorities and family members have said.
'The girl was just over eight when she got pregnant. The father is a boy who is 17, but we have not found him, since he ran away,' the mother of the girl, identified only as Dafne, told local officials in Jalisco state.
'We are looking for the young man to get his story because she does not understand what has happened. This is a rape or child sex abuse case,' said Jorge Villasenor with the state prosecutors' office.
The baby girl was born January 27 in Zoquipan Hospital, weighing 2.7kg (5.7 pounds).
Both girls were released from the hospital over the weekend, apparently doing well, but the hospital said it would have to do extensive follow-up due to the new mother's age..

Authorities are now hunting for the 17-year-old father in what they believe is a case of rape or sexual abuse, Mexican newspaper Milenio reported.

The unnamed girl from Manaure, a town in the Colombian Department of La Guajira, arrived at the hospital in tears and 'enormous pain' from the contractions, according to Univision's Primer Impacto. She reportedly delivered her daughter, who weighed 5 pounds, by cesarean section.
Experts say a C-section delivery for such a young mother is not unusual.
'The baby's head needs to come through a bony outlet. But in a young girl, the pelvis may not be ready or big enough to deliver a baby,' said Dr. Kimberly Gecsi, an OB/GYN at UH Case Medical Center in Cleveland.
Extremely young mothers also have a higher risk of pregnancy-induced high blood pressure known as preeclampsia, and their babies are at risk for fetal growth restriction, according to Dr. Frederick Gonzalez, a clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at NYU Langone Medical Center.
'These girls are not ready to be pregnant. Their bodies are not mature,' said Gonzalez. 'They may be able to get pregnant, but being able to have a baby is a whole other situation.'

Jalisco state police spokesman Lino Gonzalez says the baby girl was born last week at a hospital in the city of Guadalajara. He says the girl and her baby are doing well.
Gonzalez said Wednesday that the girl’s family alerted authorities after she gave birth and the alleged father has not been seen since in the neighborhood the both live in. He says that if the teenager’s paternity is proven he could face child sex abuse charges.
Gonzalez says the girl told authorities the teenager was her boyfriend.

A 9-year-old Mexican girl gave birth via Cesarean section to a baby in January as a search continues for the 17-year-old father of the child.
The young mother, who's name is reportedly Dafne, gave birth on January 27 in a Jalisco hospital near Guadalajara, reported ABC News.
Dafne and her child are both healthy and recovering at home, said Dr. Enrique Rabago, director of Zoquipan Hospital, at a press conference Wednesday. Doctors decided to perform a C-Section, Rabago said, 'due to her young age and the fact that her body was not ready to give birth.'
According to the Jalisco State Prosecutor's office, Dafne described her relationship with the child's father as loving but was unwilling to release any further information.
'Due to her young age, we don't know if she's being entirely truthful,' said Lino Ginzalez Corona, a spokesperson for the prosecutor's office. 'She did not realize that she was pregnant until the seventh month.'
Corona also said, according to Dafne's account, the child's father suggested she and the baby move in with him, but he left town when she refused.
The office is 'still open to the possibility of rape or child abuse,' Corona said.
Dafne is one of 11 children from a family living in Ixtlahuacan de los Membrillos, 25 miles south of Guadalajara.
