Rajiv Gandhi Mahila Vikas Pariyojana (RGMVP) is a rights-based organisation working for poverty reduction, women's empowerment and rural development in Uttar Pradesh.
With a commitment to the poor's strong desire and innate ability to overcome poverty, RGMVP organises poor rural women into community organisations in the form of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), each with ten to twenty women.
RGMVP has lifted millions of women out of poverty and Anita, a resident of Amethi, Uttar Pradesh is one such beneficiary of RGMVP. Since the time Anita joined the Self Help Group it has given her immense confidence, not only was she able to repay the debt taken by her mother in law, but she has also provided financial assistance to her husband who bought a piece of land in Noida. Anita made sure that the land bought in Noida is registered in her name only.
In Uttar Pradesh RGMVP has a membership of 12 lakh women reaching 1 million household and a saving corpus of 430 million rupees. The SHG's work with women to secure their basic rights and entitlements, linking them to existing state and non-state structures and resources, such as the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment
Guarantee Act and the National Rural Health Mission amongst others.

Prime Minister will dedicate to the nation the 7500th Janaushadhi Kendra at NEIGRIHMS, Shillong during the event. He will interact with beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana and also give awards to stakeholders by recognizing their excellent work. Sales in the financial year 2020-21 (up to 4th March 2021) led to total savings of approximately Rs. 3600 Crore for common citizens, as these medicines are cheaper by 50% to 90% than the corresponding market rates.

In order to create more awareness about Janaushadhi, an entire week from 1st March to 7th March is being celebrated as ‘Janaushadhi Week’ across the nation, with the theme of “Jan Aushadhi - Seva bhi, Rozgar bhi”. The last day of the week i.e. 7th March will be celebrated as ‘Janaushadhi Diwas’.

When Shri Narendra Modi government came to power in 2014, he took up the cause of creating awareness about generic medicines and demand amongst the common people. Jan Aushadhi scheme focuses on price fixation of various drugs and medicines. With over 6200+ Jan Aushadhi Kendras, covering 700 districts out of 723 districts, they facilitate for 900 drugs and 154 surgical items. Jan Aushadhi Kendra is world’s largest chain of pharma stores covering all major therapeutic categories such as anti-infective, anti-diabetic, anti-cardiovascular, anti-gastrointestinal and even anti-cancer. The sales of Jan Aushadhi Kendras in the FY 2019-20 (upto Jan 2020) have crossed Rs. 383 crore leading to the total savings of approx. Rs. 2200 crore for the common citizens as these medicines were availed at 50% - 90% cheaper rates than the average market price of that particular dozes.
To strengthen the supply chain, boost its efficiency and ensuring that the medicines reach the customers in good health and on time, special arrangements were devised around a robust IT enabled end-to-end supply chain management system. This intelligent Supply Chain Management System efficiently manages Central Warehouse and three regional warehouses. The Warehouses powered by technical expertise are temperature controlled. They record the medicines through radio scanners at the time of arrival, specify their place and store them at exact spots with the help of automated cranes and trolleys. This warehouse in Manesar has a systemized way of 3 layer scanning system, storing and dispatching the generic medicines with utmost care and expertise.
