Due to the policies of the government in the defence sector, especially in defence production, the country is becoming increasingly self-reliant. Of all approvals accorded for modernisation of armed forces in 2020-21, 87% were from the 'Make in India' category. India has a domestic defence industry of which 80% is government owned. The public sector includes DRDO and its 50 labs, 4 defence shipyards, 12 defence PSUs. India has a new defence procurement, acquisition and manufacturing policy to reduce imports and enhance domestic manufacturing. India is poised to expand its footprint in foreign defence markets. The world has taken note of the BrahMos deal. And several other Asian and African countries could be potential buyers of the missile. There are several other indigenous platforms that hold good export potential. The focus on boosting exports comes along with a renewed thrust on indigenisation of weapons and systems. India's defence exports have recorded nearly a six-fold increase between 2017 and 2021, growing from ₹1,520 crore to ₹8,435 crore. Defence items being exported by India include missiles, the advanced light helicopters, offshore patrol vessels, personal protective gear, surveillance systems and a variety of radars. In the Indian context, the nation continues to face both conventional and non-conventional threats from its two inimical neighbours, the threats manifesting the entire spectrum of conflict on land, in the maritime domain, in the air and in space and outer space. This speaks to the need to have a strong defence architecture to negate all such threats.
However, despite having a large defence public sector, there have been serious weaknesses in the indigenous production of land systems, as well as platforms for the Navy and the IAF which has impacted India’s defence capability. Since the last seven years, however, we are seeing a distinct change in government policies, which are now aiming to establish a strong and vib.

The digital world is vulnerable
India is witnessing exponential growth in the adoption of digital technology across sectors and institutions, enabling a large number of people to avail themselves not only of services and conveniences but also governance solutions. The rise of digital has also been accompanied by growing need for cyberthreat intelligence and protection, to proactively minimize risks and ward off cyberattacks. Threat intelligence is about identifying and analyzing cyberthreats targeting a business. IT specialists use sophisticated tools to read threats and analyse them, applying historical knowledge to identify a real threat apart from one that is not, and then applying a solution to mitigate it. The better and more comprehensive the tool, the more robust is threat intelligence. While enterprises and institutions are waking up to the actual scale of dangers posed by weak cybersecurity systems targeting not only finances but also user data, Kaspersky, a global cybersecurity company, has urged players to take speedy steps to strengthen their cybersecurity systems as the only way to protect not only their funds and data but also their reputation and the consumer’s trust in their ability to service them.
Secondly, it is now official that, the online gaming software simulated a number of cyberthreat incidents, for which were highlighted a range of solutions. As a result, participants were reminded of the various kinds of vulnerabilities that exist in the digital world and the counter-measures required for it. While large businesses have woken up to cyberthreats, a lot more awareness is needed. Media’s role in making medium- and small-sized businesses and institutions aware of these risks and urging them to take steps in the right direction is seen as crucial. On the other hand, large businesses too need to keep investing in latest cybersecurity solutions to ensu

Several tech companies are in a race to reinvent #artificialintelligence. AI has become an increasingly important technology in recent years, and there is a growing demand for more advanced and sophisticated AI applications across various industries.
Some of the largest tech companies in the world, such as #Google, #Microsoft, Amazon, and IBM, are heavily investing in AI research and development. These companies are developing new AI algorithms, improving existing ones, and exploring new applications of AI.
There is also a growing trend towards developing more specialized AI systems that are designed for specific industries or use cases. For example, healthcare companies are developing AI systems for disease diagnosis and drug discovery, while financial institutions are using AI for fraud detection and risk management.
Generative AI is slated to become the “next big thing,” transforming how people work in both corporate and personal settings. Realising its potential, companies are racing to integrate the technology into their products.

#RadioAccessNetwork or RAN is a key part of a mobile network system that uses cellular radio connections to link individual devices to other parts of a network. Open Radio Access Network or #ORAN is based on interoperability and standardization of RAN elements, including a unified interconnection standard for white-box hardware and open-source software elements from different vendors.
By integrating a modular base station software stack on off-the-shelf hardware, ORAN architecture allows baseband and radio unit components from different suppliers to operate seamlessly. The ORAN standards are being established to transform the siloed nature of the RAN market, where a few RAN vendors offer proprietary equipment and software, thereby reducing flexibility and interoperability.
The Department of Telecommunications invited expressions of interest for the 5G Vertical Engagement and Partnership Programme. The initiative aims to foster strong collaborative partnerships across 5G use-case ecosystem stakeholders and address vertical industry needs.
The centre also created an inter-ministerial committee comprising representatives from several ministries, including electronics and information technology, agriculture, health, and education. 5G will radically change how we live, work and play.
It’s critical to make network infrastructure commercially available as quickly as possible. With Open RAN, telecom players would have the flexibility to use in-house solutions or solutions from multiple vendors for RAN services.
Open RAN has now been deployed in 35 countries around the world on a pilot or commercial basis, including in Australia, India, Japan and the United States. Operators and vendors are devoting significant resources to developing, standardizing, and validating open interfaces to ensure timely deployments. This is the culmination of years of global private sector activity in organizations such as 3GPP, the ORAN Alliance, the T
