More Trayvon Martin protests in LA after George Zimmerman verdict

Protesters took to the streets of Los Angeles again on Monday to demonstrate against the acquittal of George Zimmerman by a court in Sanford, Florida. Police stood ready with batons to keep the crowds under control, as several protesters were arrested the night before after refusing to disperse.

Zimmerman's acquittal on Saturday was decried by civil rights leaders and sparked protests in several cities, including Boston, San Francisco, San Diego and Los Angeles.

Zimmerman's lawyers argued he acted in self-defence in February 2012, when they say Trayvon Martin, 17, attacked Zimmerman inside a gated community in central Florida. They claim civil rights advocates wrongly injected the issue of race.

Critics contend 29-year-old Zimmerman, who is white and Hispanic, wrongly suspected Martin of being a criminal because he was black.

Zimmerman called police to report a suspicious looking person, then left his car with a fully loaded pistol concealed in his waistband. A fight ensued, in which Zimmerman suffered a bloody nose and head injuries, and Zimmerman shot Martin once in the heart.

The jurors, who deliberated for 16 hours over two days, found Zimmerman not guilty of second-degree murder and manslaughter. Report by Mark Morris..

Police Chief in Trayvon Martin Case Resigns 'Temporarily'

Sanford Police Chief Bill Lee is temporarily stepping down amid accusations that his department bungled the investigation into the shooting death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin.

Lee's announcement he was stepping aside came shortly before Florida Gov. Rick Scott said another key investigator tied to the case, State Attorney Norman Wolfinger, also had agreed to withdraw. Angela B. Corey of the 4th Judicial Circuit Court was appointed to replace Wolfinger.

Scott added that Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll would lead a special new task force to prevent future tragedies like Martin's death that would 'conduct public hearings, take testimony and recommend actions -- legislative and otherwise -- to both protect our citizens and safeguard our rights.'

Lee, in a hastily organized press conference, said he was stepping down because he 'hopes to restore semblance of calm to the city.' He added, 'My hope is that the investigation process will move forth swiftly.'

Lee said he stands by his department's investigation and the officers involved, but he acknowledges that he has become 'a distraction from the investigation.'

I had to edit a lot of this video for some particular reasons, but this case weighs heavy on my heart.
Trayvon Martin is the 17yr old boy who got shot and killed by the neighborhood watchman because he looked suspicious, and all he had was skittles and iced tea in his hand. The cops believe there is not enough evidence to arrest ths neighborhood watch man, Zimmerman.
As a Florida resident, i can't believe this is happening in 2012. I fear for my child and for the next person's child. I feel like we can't trust the cops here in Florida, i really blame them because they suppose to protect us. I was trully wandering if this guy Zimmerman was working for the cops cause i can't understand why no arrest yet. Please pray for the family of Trayvon Martin and pray that we can get justice. Thank you Rest in Peace Trayvon
