At least 10 people have been killed in a train crash in Spain, according to reports.
Spanish newspapers said carriages derailed as the train approached a station in the city of Santiago de Compostela, a popular place of pilgrimage in the northwestern region of Galicia.
One Spanish website, ABC.es, carried a picture showing several carriages which had rolled over at the side of the tracks, with flames and smoke seen rising from the front carriage.
Bill Bond, a journalist in Spain, told Sky News there were reports of at least 50 injured people.
The train was travelling from Madrid to the port city of Ferrol.
It happened at about 8.40pm local time - 7.40pm UK time - on a bend a short distance from a scheduled stop in the city.
The cause of the crash is not yet known..

SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA, Spain — A security camera has captured the moment when a Spanish train veers off the track and crashes into a wall at high speed, leaving at least 78 dead.
The footage posted Thursday on YouTube shows the train rounding a bend, making a turn to the left underneath a road overpass.
The train’s first carriage behind the locomotive appears to come off the tracks first, slamming the tail of the locomotive into a concrete wall.
All the carriages can be seen starting to come off the tracks as the locomotive hurtles toward the camera position.
The security camera footage appears to stop at the moment that the engine crashes into it.
Relatives of victims from a train crash in northwestern Spain sobbed and hugged each other Friday near a makeshift morgue in a sports arena for the victims as the death toll rose to 78 and investigators tried to determine the cause.
The train jumped the tracks and at least one passenger told a radio station that it appeared to be going very fast as it went into a pronounced curve while approaching the station in this Catholic shrine city on the eve of a major religious festival.
Seventy-three people were found dead at the scene of the accident and four died in hospitals, said Maria Pardo Rios, spokeswoman for the Galicia region’s main court. Another person also died, bringing the toll to 78, but no information was immediately available

The head of Spain's Galicia region said that at least 35 people had been killed in the train derailment, although it was too soon to say what had caused the accident.
Eyewitnesses said that the derailed train, which was reportedly carrying 240 passengers when the accident happened, had caught fire after the crash.
'It was going so quickly ... It seems that on a curve the train started to twist, and the wagons piled up one on top of the other,' passenger Ricardo Montesco told Cadena Ser radio station.
'A lot of people were squashed on the bottom. We tried to squeeze out of the bottom of the wagons to get out and we realised the train was burning ... I was in the second wagon and there was fire ... I saw corpses,' he added.
Another witness told the station they had heard an explosion before seeing the derailed train.
Emergency services and police were not immediately available for comment.
