England Under-21s match-winner Saido Berahino could not hide his delight following his decisive debut goal against Moldova.

Berahino's 13th-minute strike was the only goal on a night where the Three Lions threatened throughout, but were unable to add the West Bromwich Albion forward's early effort.

Speaking immediately after the game, he said: 'I thank god that I got one goal and we won the game. I started well.

'It's amazing, I couldn't dream of it going that way. I'm pinching myself.'

England spurned numerous chances to double the lead, and came up against a Moldova goalkeeper in inspired form.

However, Berahino said the most important thing was winning the game, and that it would be more concerning if his side were not creating the opportunities to score.

'They were brilliant defending and cleared a few off the line,' he added.

'At least we were creating chances, which is a positive sign, and we've got to carry on and make sure against Finland we put them in.'

England now return to St. George's Park for a recovery day, before flying to Finland on Saturday ahead of their game on Monday evening..
