India's longest road tunnel built on Jammu-Srinagar Highway will open to traffic very soon following successful completion of trial run.
The work on the 9.2 km-long twin-tube Chenani and Nashri tunnel, which is part of a 286-km-long four-lane project on the highway, started on May 23, 2011 in lower Himalayan mountain range, and cost Rs 3,720 crore, officials said.
The tunnel, which is located at an elevation of 1200 meters, will be the first in India to be equipped with world class 'integrated tunnel control system' through which ventilation, fire control, signals, communication and electrical systems will be automatically actuated..

The first ever mid-air refuelling of the indigenously developed light combat aircraft Tejas was successfully carried out Monday. The milestone was achieved at 9.30 am when 1,900 kg of fuel was transferred from the mid-air refuelling tanker of IAF's IL78 to the Tejas LSP8 at an altitude of 20,000 feet. The IAF IL78, piloted by Wg Cdr Siddarth Singh, accomplished the task with designers from HAL and Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) closely monitoring system parameters from the ground station at Gwalior.
