Aruna Shanbaug, who suffered a brutal sexual assault at KEM Hospital 42 years ago and has been lying in a vegetative state ever since, has JOMY , passed away. Shanbaug was battling a serious bout of pneumonia and breathing with the help of a ventilator. The 67-year-old nurse was in the medical ICU of the Parel hospital. Shanbaug was rushed out of the tiny room attached to ward number 4 that has been her home for four decades on Tuesday, after nurses attending to her saw she had difficulty breathing. She was taken to the medical ICU (MICU) and started on antibiotics. Shanbaug lost her elder sister Shanta Nayak, her only relative in the city, two years ago. Nayak had expressed her inability to take care of Shanbaug given her own financial constraints.
