STORYLINE :
Thirteen civilians were wounded on Monday in a grenade attack by suspected Islamic rebels in the Indian-controlled portion of Kashmir, police said.
Militants lobbed a hand grenade toward a shopkeeper, Sidique Gojri, in the town of Pattan, 35 kilometres (20 miles) north of Srinagar, the summer capital of India's Jammu-Kashmir state, the local police chief said.
Seven of those injured were taken to a hospital in Srinagar in critical condition, the police chief added.
An army convoy had passed through the area earlier but the attack seemed to target the shop owner Sidique Gojri, police said.
Police said they were investigating why Gojri was targeted.
No militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
