വിമാനത്താവളമില്ലാത്ത ഏക സംസ്ഥാനമെന്ന പേര് ഇനി സിക്കിമിനില്ല;രാജ്യത്തെ നൂറാമത് വിമാനത്താവളമായി പാക്യോങ്
വടക്കുകഴിക്കന്‍ ഇന്ത്യയുടെ പൊതുഗതാഗതസംവിധാനത്തില്‍ വിപ്ലവകരമായ മാറ്റത്തിന് തുടക്കം കുറിച്ചു കൊണ്ടാണ് സിക്കിമിലെ പ്രഥമ വിമാനത്താവളമായ പാക്യോഗ് ഗ്രീന്‍ഫില്‍ഡ് വിമാനത്താവളം പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി നരേന്ദ്രമോദി ഉദ്ഘാടനം ചെയ്‍തത്. സിക്കിമിന്‍റെ തലസ്ഥാനമായ ഗ്യാംഗ്ടോക്കില്‍ നിന്നും 33 കി.മീ ദൂരത്തിലാണ് പാക്യോഗ് വിമാനത്താവളം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്.പാക്യോംഗ് മലനിരകള്‍ക്കിടയില്‍ അതീവ സാഹസികമായാണ് വിമാനത്താവളം പണി കഴിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. 2008ലാണ് വിമാനത്താവളത്തിന്‍റെ നിര്‍മ്മാണം ആരംഭിക്കുന്നത്. 4500 അടി ഉയരത്തിലാണ് വിമാനത്താവളം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്. 605 കോടി രൂപയാണ് വിമാനത്താവളത്തിന്‍റെ നിര്‍മ്മാണചിലവ്. 30 മീറ്റര്‍ വീതിയില്‍ 1.75 കിമീ നീളമുള്ള റണ്‍വേയാണ് വിമാനത്താവളത്തിനുള്ളത്.
വടക്കുകിഴക്കന്‍ സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിലെ പ്രധാന വിനോദസഞ്ചാരകേന്ദ്രങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണ് സിക്കിം. വിമാനത്താവളം പ്രവര്‍ത്തനസജ്ജമാക്കുന്നതോടെ സിക്കിമിലേക്കുള്ള വിനോദസഞ്ചാരികളുടെ എണ്ണത്തില്‍ കാര്യമായ പുരോഗതിയുണ്ടാവും.
നേരത്തെ സിക്കിമിലെത്താന്‍ സഞ്ചാരികള്‍ പശ്ചിമ ബംഗാളിലെ ഭഗ്ദോര വിമാനത്താവളമാണ് ഉപയോഗിച്ചിരുന്നത്. ഇന്ത്യ-ചൈന അതിര്‍ത്തിയില്‍ നിന്നും 60 കി.മീ മാത്രം അകലെ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന പാക്യോംഗ് വിമാനത്താവളം പ്രതിരോധരംഗത്തും ഇന്ത്യയ്ക്ക് നിര്‍ണായകമുന്‍തൂക്കം നല്‍കുന്നുണ്ട്. ഇന്ത്യന്‍ വ്യോമസേനയുടെ വിവിധ വിമാനങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് ഇവിടെ ഇറങ്ങാന്‍ സാധിക്കും. നേരത്തെ വ്യോമസേനയുടെ ഡ്രോണിയര്‍ 228 വിമാനം ഇവിടെ ലാന്‍ഡ് ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.
