A day after a jury found her guilty of first-degree murder in the slaying of her ex-boyfriend, Jodi Arias will return to court Thursday to begin a phase that will move her closer to learning whether she will live or die.
During this part of the proceedings, the so-called 'aggravation phase,' jurors will take an important step closer to that life or death decision.
'Now the odds, I think, shift somewhat in her favor, because it's a very different thing to sentence someone to die than to convict them,' CNN senior legal analyst Jeffery Toobin said.
In a television interview minutes after the verdict was announced, Arias said she'd prefer a death sentence.
'I said years ago that I'd rather get death than life, and that still is true today,' she told Phoenix television station KSAZ. 'I believe death is the ultimate freedom, so I'd rather just have my freedom as soon as I can get it.'
The comments prompted authorities to place Arias on suicide watch in an Arizona jail, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
'Until she is released from suicide protocol by Sheriff's officials no further media interviews of inmate Arias will be permitted,' the office said in a statement.
Arias was stoic in court Wednesday. Her eyes briefly welled up with tears as a clerk announced that the jury found her guilty of first-degree murder for killing Travis Alexander

All the four convicts - Akshay Thakur, Vinay Sharma, Mukesh Singh and Pawan Gupta - in the December 16, 2012 gangrape and murder of a 23-year-old physiotherapy student inside a private bus in Delhi have been sentenced to death by the Saket fast track trial court. Immediately after the sentence was announced all convicts broke down in the court while there were celebrations among anti-rape protesters outside the Saket court complex.
The death penalty has been awarded under Section 302 (murder) as the braveheart had died due to the injuries inflicted by the convicts. The judge Yogesh Khanna called it a rarest of rare case and said that looking at the gravity of the incident and inhuman torture, it is death penalty to all.

आखिकार चार साल के लंबे इंतजार के बाद हिमाचल प्रदेश की राजधानी शिमला के बहुचर्चित युग अपहरण एवं हत्या मामले पर जिला एवं सत्र न्यायालय में तीनों आरोपियों को दोषी करार दिया है.चार साल के युग की किडनैपिंग के बाद हत्या कर दी गई थी. दोषियों ने युग को पानी के टैंक में फैंक दिया था. अब अदालत ने तीनों को दोषी करार दिया है. हालांकि, तीनों को कितनी सजा होगी, इस पर सोमवार को हुई सुनवाई में फैसला नहीं हुआ. 13 अगस्त को सजा पर बहस होगी.शन जज वीरेंद्र सिंह की अदालत में इस मामले की सुनवाई चल रही है. उन्होंने आरोपी तेजेंद्र सिंह, चंद्र शर्मा और विक्रांत बक्शी को दोषी करार दिया. जज ने खड़े होकर फैसला सुनाया. इससे पहले, तीनों दोषियों को शिमला की कंडा जेल से कड़ी सुरक्षा के बीच चक्कर कोर्ट लाया गया.14 जून 2014 को शिमला के रामबाजार से 4 साल का मासूम युग रहस्मयी ढंग से लापता हो गया था. दो साल बाद अगस्त 2016 को भराड़ी में पानी के टैंक से युग का कंकाल मिला.
