After Jesus was put to death by the Romans and sinful others, he rose again from the dead on the third day. You can read this in the part of the Nicene Creed: “On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures”. According to the New Testament, he was buried by Joseph of Arimathea in a new tomb but God raised him from the dead and later appeared to many people within forty days before he ascended into heaven and sat at the right hand of God. This resurrection of Jesus is then celebrated on Easter Sunday by the Christians, two days after Good Friday, which is the day of his crucifixion.
