Congress Vice-President Shri Rahul Gandhi sought inputs from women Panchayat representatives and urban local self-government body members on January 31, 2014.

Addressing nearly 200 local self-government representatives from across the country, Shri Gandhi said 'You are the pillars of our democracy. You must recognize your strength.' 'The system cannot change unless you recognize your strength and come together,' he added.

Responding to a suggestion made by a participant, Shri Gandhi said that if the two child norm is mandatory for Panchayat representatives, it must be mandatory for the Prime Minister, MPs and MLAs as well. He said that a difference in the norms was 'unconstitutional'.

The consultation was organized by the Rajiv Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sangathan at Gandhi Darshan in New Delhi.
