The celebrations for the 70th Republic Day began with a grand military parade and a booming 21-gun salute at Delhi's Rajpath before a crowd of thousands, that included foreign dignitaries and VIPs. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa is the chief guest this year. Twenty-two tableaux of states and central government departments, and performances by school children are part of the 90-minute parade. The themes include an eclectic mix of folk dances, music and drama.
