21 ദ്വീപുകളില്‍ കടല്‍ക്കാഴ്ചകളാണ് ഗള്‍ഫ് ഓഫ് മാന്നാര്‍ ദേശീയോദ്യാനം.ഇന്ത്യയുടേയും ശ്രീലങ്കയുടേയും അതിര്‍ത്തിയിലുളള കടലിടുക്കാണ് മാന്നാര്‍ ഉള്‍ക്കടല്‍ അഥവാ ഗള്‍ഫ് ഓഫ് മാന്നാര്‍.തൂത്തുക്കുടിക്കും ധനുഷ്‌കോടിക്കും ഇടയിലാണ് ഈ കടല്‍ ദേശീയോദ്യാനം .അത്യപൂര്‍വ്വമായ ജൈവവൈവിധ്യ സമ്ബത്താണ് ഇവിടുത്തെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ പ്രത്യേകത. ആഴം കുറഞ്ഞ ഈ കടലിടുക്ക് ഇന്ത്യന്‍ മഹാസമുദ്രത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമായാണുള്ളത്. ജൈവ വൈവിധ്യത്തിന്റ കാര്യത്തില്‍ ഏഷ്യയിലെ തന്നെ ഏറ്റവും സമ്ബന്നമായിട്ടുള്ള സ്ഥലമാണിത്.മാന്നാര്‍ ഉള്‍ക്കടലില്‍ 21 ചെറു ദ്വീപുകളും പവിഴപ്പുറ്റുകളുമായി ചേര്‍ന്നു കിടക്കുന്ന ഒന്നാണ് മാന്നാര്‍ ഉള്‍ക്കടല്‍ മറൈന്‍ ദേശീയോദ്യാനം. ഇന്ത്യയിലെ സംരക്ഷിത പ്രദേശങ്ങളില്‍ ഒന്നായ ഇത് തമിഴ്‌നാടിന്റെ ഭാഗമാണ്.തമിഴ്‌നാടിന്റെ കടലോരങ്ങളോട് ചേര്‍ന്നു സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന മാന്നാര്‍ ഉള്‍ക്കടല്‍ മറൈന്‍ ദേശീയോദ്യാനം തൂത്തുക്കുടിക്കും ധനുഷ്‌കോടിക്കും ഇടയിലാണുള്ളത്. തമിഴ്‌നാട് തീരത്തു നിന്നും 1 മുതല്‍ 10 കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ വരെ അകലത്തിലായി സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന ഇത് 160 കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ നീളത്തില്‍ വ്യാപിച്ചു കിടക്കുന്ന ഒരു ദേശീയോദ്യാനം കൂടിയാണ്. ഇതിന്റെ പത്തു കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ ചുറ്റളവ് വരെയും ബഫര്‍ സോണായി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചിരിക്കുകയാണ്.തെക്കു കിഴക്കന്‍ ഏഷ്യയിലെ തന്നെ ആദ്യത്തെ മറൈന്‍ ബയോസ്ഫിയര്‍ റിസര്‍വ്വാണ് ഗള്‍ഫ് ഓഫ് മാന്നാര്‍. കൂടാതെ 2001ല്‍ യുനെസ്കോയുടെ മനുഷ്യനും ജൈവ വൈവിദ്ധ്യവും എന്ന പദ്ധതിയുടെ ഭാഗമായുള്ള ഇന്ത്യയിലെ രണ്ടാമത്തെ ബയോസ്ഫിയര്‍ റിസര്‍വും ഇതുതന്നെയാണ്.തീവ്രമായ കാലാവസ്ഥാ വ്യതിയാനങ്ങള്‍ നടക്കുന്ന ഇടമാണ് ഗള്‍ഫ് ഓഫ് മാന്നാര്‍. തെക്കു-പടിഞ്ഞാറന്‍ കാലവര്‍ഷവും വടക്കു-കിഴക്കന്‍ കാലവര്‍ഷവും ഒരുപോലെ എത്തുന്ന സ്ഥലമാണിത്. ഒക്ടോബര്‍ മുതല്‍ ഡിസംബര്‍ വരെയുള്ള മാസങ്ങളില്‍ മഴ കുറവായിരിക്കും. ഡിസംബറിലാണ് അവിടെ ഏറ്റവും അധികം തണുപ്പ് അനുഭവപ്പെടുന്നത്. ജനുവരി മുതല്‍ മെയ് വരെ ചൂടുകാലമാണ്.ജൂണ്‍ മുതല്‍ ഓഗസ്റ്റ് വരെയുള്ള സമയമാണ് കാറ്റ് കൂടുതലായും അടിക്കുന്ന സമയം. . 3600 ൽ അധികം ജീവി വർഗ്ഗങ്ങൾ ഈ മേഖലയിലുള്ളതായി കണക്കാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. 2001ൽ യുനെസ്കോയുടെ മനുഷ്യനും ജൈവ വൈവിദ്ധ്യവും (മാൻ ആന്റ് ബയൊസ്ഫിയർ പ്രോഗ്രാം) എന്ന പദ്ധതി

A twin-engine aircraft crashed into the Gulf of Mexico after the pilot was unresponsive for nearly three hours as radar tracked the plane flying aimlessly in loops.
The FAA lost radio contact with the Cessna 412 before 9 a.m. ET. It was circling at approximately 28,000 feet. Fully loaded, the plane was carrying about 3.5 hours worth of fuel. Only the pilot was thought to be on board.
The plane took off from Slidell, La., and was en route to Sarasota, Fla., according to a flight plan. Somewhere between the two points, it began flying in circles.
