After nine months of searching and 59 tryouts, the producers of 'Live! With Kelly' are ready to name Kelly Ripa's new co-host. They say they'll do it during the Sept. 4 show.
Disney-ABC Domestic Television said Monday that Kelly Ripa's new partner will join her on stage that morning. By then, the 41-year-old Ripa will have welcomed 59 guest co-hosts since Nov. 18, 2012, when Regis Philbin retired from the show after 28 years on the air, first with Kathie Lee Gifford and then with Ripa.
The company says the chosen one will come from among the 59 guest co-hosts.
The day before the big revelation, Ripa will host the show solo for the first time.
Guest hosts have included Josh Groban, Neil Patrick Harris, Seth Meyers, Jonah Hill, Cat Deeley, Mario Lopez, Michael Strahan, Daniel Radcliffe, and Alec Baldwin. Ripa's husband and the father of her three children, TV actor Mark Consuelos, also was a co-host.
Philbin, who created the show, exited at age 80. Ripa became his on-air partner in 2001 after a similar lengthy search involving many co-hosts.

On Nov. 8, Burke first revealed she had been diagnosed with thyroid cancer and planned to have a thyroidectomy.
'I've booked my surgery,' she said in a YouTube video. 'It's taken me a couple of months to really wrap my head around this ... Now I'm good. I'm ready to deal with it, and I'm going to be fine. I feel really, really strong. Doctors say this is a 'good' kind of cancer to have ... My doctor did tell me this is a happily ever after ending kind of thing.'
The mother of four has been sharing the personal experience with fans via her Modern Mom blog. On Wednesday, the day of her surgery, Burke revealed how she told her kids she had cancer.
'I decided not to tell my children about my diagnosis for as long as I possibly could because I didn't want them to worry,' she wrote in a blog post. 'I know that my younger ones still don't have a great concept of time and I didn't want them to be anxious, worried and asking 1,000 questions.'
When Burke finally decided it was time to have the conversation, she told her 12-year-old daughter first.

They said Ms. Ripa would start the new season of “Live! With Kelly” alone on Sept. 3, then be joined by her new partner the next day. Her show has been searching for that person since Regis Philbin left last winter.
Since then, 59 men and women have been guest hosts, Disney-ABC Domestic Television pointed out in a news release on Monday. The producers are said to be seeking an entertainer to sit next to Ms. Kelly, someone like Seth Meyers, the “SNL” comic who filled in on “Live! With Kelly” several times earlier this summer. Mr. Meyers subsequently denied reports that he was going to become Ms. Ripa’s co-host.
Whoever it is, teasing the audience with the announcement date two weeks in advance assures that the show will receive a bump in the ratings when the co-host is revealed.
