“Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” is the offshoot reality TV show of TLC’s once popular and always controversial “Toddlers & Tiaras” program. That vehicle showcases a group of stage parents who fight and claw their way to the top of child beauty pageants. “Honey Boo Boo”, whose real name is Alana Thompson, was one of those pageant kids. Her new show premiered to big ratings recently and her audience has grown to the point that Wednesday night it eclipsed coverage of the Republican National Convention, according to Neilson via The Hollywood Reporter yesterday.

“Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” debuted in early August to 2.2 million viewers. The show goes away from the child pageant scene to follow little Alana and her self-proclaimed redneck family. On the “Toddlers & Tiaras” show she was infamously fed “go go juice” by her mom before going onstage in pageants. It consisted of a mixture of Red Bull and Mountain Dew soda and gave her a definitive kick before performing.
In it’s fourth week airing, “Honey Boo Boo” garnered nearly 3 million viewers, that’s up 30 percent from last week’s ratings of 2.3 million. By demographic the show did even better. The 18-49 year-old demo is the advertisers’ sweet spot, and the reality show did better than all other cable shows in this segment, including the Republican National Convention coverage.
