സ്കോര്പീന് ക്ലാസ് അന്തര്വാഹിനികളില് നാലാമനായ ഐഎന്എസ് വേല സേനയുടെ ഭാഗമാകാനൊരുങ്ങുന്നത്. ഇതിന് മുന്നോടിയായുള്ള പരീക്ഷണങ്ങള് തുടങ്ങി. ഗോവയിലെ മസഗോണ് ഡോക്യാര്ഡിലാണ് ഇതിന്റെ ഭാഗമായുള്ള പരീക്ഷണ യാത്രകള് നടത്തുക. ഫ്രഞ്ച് കമ്പനിയായ ഡിസിഎന്എസ് ആണ് നാവികസേനയ്ക്കായി അന്തര്വാഹിനികള് നിര്മിക്കുന്നത്. ആറ് അന്തര്വാഹിനികള് നിര്മിക്കാനാണ് കമ്പനിയുമായുള്ള കരാര്.
2005 ലാണ് ഇതുസംബന്ധിച്ച കരാര് യാഥാര്ഥ്യമായത്.
പ്രോജക്ട് 75 എന്ന പേരില് തുടങ്ങിയ പദ്ധതി പ്രകാരം ആദ്യത്തെ അന്തര്വാഹിനി ഐഎന്എസ് കല്വാരി കഴിഞ്ഞ വര്ഷം സേനയുടെ ഭാഗമായി. ഐഎന്എസ് ഖണ്ഡേരി, ഐഎന്എസ് കരഞ്ച് എന്നിവയെ സേനയുടെ ഭാഗമാകുന്നതിനുള്ള അവസാനവട്ട ഒരുക്കങ്ങളിലാണ്. ഐഎന്എസ് വസീര്, ഐഎന്എസ് വാഗ്ഷീര് എന്നീ അന്തര്വാഹിനികളുടെ നിര്മാണം പുരോഗമിക്കുകയാണ്. ജലോപരിതല ആക്രമണം, ജലാന്തര ആക്രമണം, അന്തര് വാഹിനികളെ തകര്ക്കല്, രഹസ്യ വിവരങ്ങള് ചോര്ത്തല്, മൈനുകള് നിക്ഷേപിക്കല്, നിരീക്ഷണം തുടങ്ങിയ ദൗത്യങ്ങള്ക്കായി സ്കോര്പീന് ക്ലാസ് അന്തര്വാഹിനികളെ നിയോഗിക്കാനാകും. കടലിലെ ഏതേ സാഹചര്യത്തിലും ദൗത്യനിര്വണത്തിനുള്ള കാര്യശേഷി സ്കോര്പീന് ക്ലാസ് അന്തര്വാഹിനികള്ക്കുണ്ട്.
നാവിക സേന നിര്ദ്ദേശിച്ച സംവിധാനങ്ങള്കൂടി സന്നിവേശിപ്പിച്ചവയാണ് ഇവ.
