Vanessa Bryant, NBA star Kobe Bryant's wife of 11 years, (pictured above with their two daughters) recently gave an interview to New York Magazine for a profile on basketball players' wives. And she had some interesting things to say.
On Kobe's basketball career:
'I love basketball. And I know what goes on behind the scenes, so I have a different perspective on things, but still, I do. I certainly would not want to be married to somebody that can't win championships. If you're sacrificing time away from my family and myself for the benefit of winning championships, then winning a championship should happen every single year.'
On the fame of being married to a high-profile player:
'I don't like the limelight. There's a lot of good you can do with fame, like creating awareness for a foundation, but a lot of negativity comes along with it ... If you notice, I am the only one allowed in that tunnel [after games]. I don't like standing outside and giving him a kiss in front of all the cameras. So I stand in there to get away from them. But then the cameras end up following. And if the girls are there, sometimes, that's their kiss good night for Daddy, and when he comes home, they're asleep.'

Vanessa, who is married to NBA superstar Kobe Bryant, had seemed to suggest she would not want to be married to someone who isn't a winner.
'I certainly would not want to be married to somebody that can't win championships,' she said to New York Magazine.
'If you're sacrificing time away from my family and myself for the benefit of winning championships, then winning a championship should happen every single year.'
Vanessa now has told TMZ that her comments were taken out of context.
She explained: 'I'm sad to hear that comments in my New York Magazine interview are being misconstrued and taken out of context. I have and will continue to support my husband's dreams.
'I have been with Kobe for 13 years. I accepted his marriage proposal prior to him winning any of his five championships with his teammates... For anyone to think otherwise is wrong. It is not about being married to a 'winner', it is about our sacrifice as a family.'
In 2011, Vanessa petitioned for divorce from Kobe after ten years of marriage, citing 'irreconcilable differences' as the cause of their separation.

Vanessa Bryant has responded to criticisms about her marriage to Kobe, following a rare interview that the mother of two did with New York magazine.
The 29-year-old NBA wife boasted about her privileged lifestyle and said 'I certainly would not want to be married to somebody that can't win championships.' Her comments were blasted as being shallow and critics flocked to social networking sites where she was slammed as being a 'gold digger' although Bryant insists that her words were taken out of context.
'I'm sad to hear that comments in my New York Magazine interview are being misconstrued and taken out of context. I have and will continue to support my husband's dreams,' Bryant told TMZ.com.

Bryant accepted Kobe's marriage proposal in May 2000, which was one month before he went on to win first ever championship in June of 2000, according to TMZ.
In the controversial interview, Bryant discussed designer labels, her marriage, and at one point bragged about getting preferential treatment from the Lakers organization whenever she attends her husband's basketball games.

It's true, the couple was engaged in May 2000 -- a month before Bryant won his first title. And her point about the sacrifices families of professional athletes make is not to be tossed aside, but read the entire article and you'll get the sense Vanessa is not your ordinary stay-at-home mom.
Incidentally, Vanessa filed for divorce in December, but the latest indications are they have reconciled.
Here's hoping Dwight Howard and Steve Nash can help Bryant bring home trophy No. 6 -- for the sake of the family, of course.
