Olympic Doodle No. 16 presents ' Rhythmic gymnastics' (August 11th, 2012)
Olympic rhythmic gymnastics is only for female participants. Top rhythmic gymnasts must have many qualities: balance, flexibility, coordination and strength are some of the most important.
They also must possess psychological attributes such as the ability to compete under intense pressure, in which one mistake can cost them the title, and the discipline and work ethic to practice the same skills over and over again.
Rhythmic gymnastics was added to the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles with an Individual all-Around competition. The group competition was added to the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.
Rhythmic gymnastics is a sport in which individuals or teams of 2 or more manipulate one or two pieces of apparatus: rope, clubs, hoop, ball, ribbon and Free (no apparatus). An athlete can exchange apparatus with a team member at any time through the routine. Therefore, an athlete can manipulate up to two different pieces of apparatus through the duration of the routine. Rhythmic gymnastics is a sport that combines elements of ballet, gymnastics, dance, and apparatus manipulation. The victor is the participant who earns the most points, determined by a panel of judges, fo

Gymnastics Artistic Men's Pommel Horse Final - Hungary Gold, BERKI Krisztian - Great Britain Silver, SMITH Louis - Great Britain Bronze, WHITLOCK Max - Highlights from the North Greenwich Arena at the London 2012 Olympic Games. -- 5 August 2012
Artistic gymnastics was introduced at the very first Olympic Games in 1896 in Athens, and has been present at every edition of the Games since then. At the beginning, it comprised disciplines that are difficult to qualify as 'artistic', such as climbing and acrobatics.
The foundations of the Olympic gymnastics programme were laid at the 1924 Games in Paris, when the men's apparatus individual and team competitions appeared. In 1928, women were included in the Amsterdam Games. It was not until 1952 that the women's programme was developed, with seven events, and then stabilised at six events as from the 1960 Games in Rome.
