The Kerala government has started to examine how the recently increased traffic fines can be brought down, state Transport Minister A.K. Saseendran said on Wednesday. Like in several other parts of the country, there were widespread protests in Kerala too, against the massive hike in traffic fines. As the cries got stronger and with celebration of the Onam festival is on peak, the state government has decided that the increased fines will no be levied. Instead, the government planning to create awareness against traffic rules violations.

മാലിന്യം വലിച്ചെറിയുന്നവര്‍ സൂക്ഷിക്കുക. മോട്ടോര്‍ വാഹനവകുപ്പ് സ്ഥാപിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള ക്യാമറകള്‍ ഇനിമുതല്‍ നിങ്ങളെ നിരീക്ഷിക്കുന്നുണ്ടാകും. ജില്ലാ ഭരണകൂടവും ജില്ലാ പഞ്ചായത്തും നടപ്പിലാക്കുന്ന 'മാലിന്യ രഹിത ജില്ല' പദ്ധതിയില്‍ മോട്ടോര്‍ വാഹന വകുപ്പും സഹകരിക്കും.മോട്ടോര്‍ വാഹനവകുപ്പ് റോഡരികില്‍ സ്ഥാപിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള ക്യാമറകള്‍ വഴി മാലിന്യം വലിച്ചെറിയുന്നവരെ പിടികൂടാന്‍ ലക്ഷ്യമിട്ടുള്ള പുതിയ പദ്ധതി പ്രാഥമിക ഘട്ടത്തില്‍ കോഴിക്കോട് ജില്ലയിലാകും നടപ്പാക്കുക. ഇതിനായി മോട്ടോര്‍ വാഹനവകുപ്പ് ക്യാമറകളുടെ എണ്ണം കൂട്ടുകയും ക്യാമറകള്‍ സ്ഥാപിച്ച സ്ഥലങ്ങള്‍ രഹസ്യമാക്കിവെക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും. പദ്ധതി നടപ്പാക്കാനായി ദൂരവ്യാപ്തിയുള്ള ക്യാമറകളായിരിക്കും സ്ഥാപിക്കുകയെന്ന് ഗതാഗതി മന്ത്രി എ.കെ ശശീന്ദ്രന്‍ അറിയിച്ചു. മാലിന്യ നിക്ഷേപം നടത്തുന്ന ആളുകളെ പിടികൂടി തക്കതായ ശിക്ഷ നല്‍കാനായാല്‍ ഇത്തരം പ്രവണതകള്‍ കുറയ്ക്കാനാകുമെന്ന് മന്ത്രി പ്രതീക്ഷ പ്രകടിപ്പിച്ചു.പിടികൂടുന്ന വാഹനങ്ങള്‍ക്കെതിരെയും തക്കതായ നടപടി സ്വീകരിക്കുമെന്ന് മന്ത്രി വ്യക്തമാക്കി. പദ്ധതി വിജയിക്കുന്ന മുറയ്ക്ക് മറ്റു ജില്ലകളിലേക്കും വ്യാപിപ്പിക്കും.
