Mumbai Indians defeated hosts Kings XI Punjab by six wickets in the 11th edition of the IPL. Punjab, playing in their second home, had 174 runs at the loss of six wickets in 20 overs in the event of batting invitations. In response, Mumbai achieved this goal by losing four wickets in 19 overs. Captain Rohit Sharma scored an unbeaten 24 runs and Kuraln Pandya scored an unbeaten 31 runs to help the side win the team.

This is the third victory of this season in Mumbai. Punjab got third defeat though it still remains at number four. It was important for Mumbai to win this match to stay in the tournament. Mumbai won the toss and asked Punjab to bat first. The beginning of Punjab was slow. K. Rahul and Chris Gayle added 54 runs for the first wicket. Rahul became the victim of Mayank Markandey, making 24 runs. But Gayle continued the hitting from the other end. He crossed the 50 mark for the fourth time in five matches.
