ക്യുബക്കില്‍ പൊതു ബസ്സിലടക്കം കയറുന്നതിന് സ്ത്രീകള്‍ മുഖം മറയ്ക്കുവാന്‍ പാടില്ലെന്ന് നിയമം പാസാക്കി. 51നെതിരെ 65 വോട്ടുകള്‍ക്കാണ് നിയമം പാസാക്കിയത്. എല്ലാ തൊഴിലാളികള്‍ക്കും ഈ നിയമം ബാധകമായിരിക്കും.'നമ്മള്‍ സ്വതന്ത്രമായ ജനാധിപത്യ രാജ്യത്താണ്. നിങ്ങള്‍ എന്നോടു സംസാരിക്കുന്നു. എനിക്കു നിങ്ങളുടെ മുഖം കാണാന്‍ കഴിയണം. നിങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് എന്റെയും.' നിയമം പാസായതിനു പിന്നാലെ ക്യുബക് പ്രീമിയര്‍ ഫിലിപ് കൗല്ലാര്‍ഡ് പറഞ്ഞു.ഭൂരിപക്ഷമായ ലിബറല്‍ പാര്‍ട്ടി ഒഴികെ എല്ലാ പാര്‍ട്ടികളും നിയമത്തിന് എതിരായി നിലകൊണ്ടു. ക്യൂബക്കിലെ മുസ്ലീം സ്ത്രീകളെ ലക്ഷ്യം വച്ചുകൊണ്ടുള്ള നിയമമാണിതെന്ന് കനേഡിയന്‍ കൗണ്‍സില്‍ ഓഫ് മുസ്ലിം വിമന്‍ ബോര്‍ഡ് ആരോപിച്ചു. മുസ്ലിം സ്ത്രീകളുടെ വേഷം പ്രശ്‌നമായി ഉയര്‍ത്തിക്കാട്ടാനുള്ള സര്‍ക്കാറിന്റെ ഏറ്റവും ഒടുവിലത്തെ ശ്രമമാണിതെന്നും അവര്‍ കുറ്റപ്പെടുത്തി.
