നോര്‍വെ റയില്‍പാളങ്ങളില്‍ നൂറുകണക്കിന് റെയിന്‍ഡീറുകളുടെ ജഡം. ഉത്തരധ്രുവ മേഖലയില്‍ വസിക്കുന്ന കലമാനുകളാണ് റെയിന്‍ഡീറുകള്‍.ഡോക്യുമെന്ററി സംവിധായകന്‍ ജോണ്‍ എര്‍ലിംഗ് ഉത്സി പകര്‍ത്തിയ ചിത്രങ്ങളിലൂടെയാണ് റെയിന്‍ഡീറുകളുടെ കൂട്ടക്കൊല ലോകം അറിയുന്നത്. കഴിഞ്ഞ 12 മാസക്കാലളവില്‍ ഏകദേശം 250 ഓളം മൃഗങ്ങള്‍ ട്രെയിനിടിച്ച് മരിച്ചതായി റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ടുകള്‍ സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.തണുപ്പുകാലമാകുന്‌പോള്‍ ഇവ വടക്കന്‍ ഭാഗങ്ങളിലേക്കു ചേക്കേറുന്ന റെയിന്‍ ഡീറുകള്‍ ചരക്കു ട്രെയിനുകള്‍ ഇടിച്ചാണ് കൊല്ലപ്പെടുന്നത്.മൂന്നു വര്‍ഷത്തിനിടെ 2000ല്‍ അധികം റെയിന്‍ഡീറുകള്‍ ഇത്തരത്തില്‍ ട്രെയിന്‍ ഇടിച്ചു ചത്തതായാണു കണക്കുകള്‍.നോര്‍ത്ത് യുഎസ്,യൂറോപ് സൈബീരിയ ആര്‍ട്ടിക് പ്രദേശങ്ങളില്‍ വസിക്കുന്ന റയിന്‍ഡീറുകള്‍ 150 സെന്റീമീറ്റര്‍ വരെ ഉയരമുള്ളവയാണ്.ഏകദേശം ആണ്‍ മാനുകള്‍ക്ക് 180 കിലോ വരെ ഭാരമുണ്ടാകും.പണ്ട് മനുഷ്യന്‍ ഏറെ വേട്ടയാടിയിരുന്ന ഇവ ഇന്ന് വംശനാശത്തിന്റെ വക്കിലാണ്‌.

पाकिस्तान-अफगानिस्तान सीमावर्ती क्षेत्र में आए बर्फीले तूफान ने भारी तबाही मचाई है। तूफान में अबतक 100 से ज्यादा लोगों की मौत हो गई। इनमें से 50 लोग एक ही गांव के हैं। मृतकों की संख्या और बढ़ने का अंदेशा जताया जा रहा है। बर्फीले तूफान में सबसे ज्यादा मौतें पाकिस्तान बॉर्डर के करीब उत्तरी अफगानिस्तान के नूरिस्तान इलाके में हुई हैं। यहां 50 लोगों के मरने की खबर है। वहीं उत्तरी पाकिस्तान में हिमस्खलन से 30 लोगों की मौत हुई है। इनमें से चित्राल कस्बे में नौ लोगों की मौत हुई है। हिमस्खलन की वजह से बार्गमटल जिले के दो गांव पूरी तरफ से दफन हो गए, जबकि बचाव दल दूसरे गांव में पहुंचने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं।' मृतकों की संख्या में अभी और इजाफा हो सकता है। स्थानीय अधिकारियों ने बताया कि अफगानिस्तान में तीन दिनों से भारी बर्फबारी हो रही है। बर्फबारी की वजह से हुए हिमस्खलन में मध्य और पूर्वोत्तर प्रांतों में सैकड़ों मकान ध्वस्त हो गये हैं।
