Coast Guard Goa have rescued two employees stationed at lighthouse on Vengurla Rock Island
According to a press release, the Coast Guard recieved a message form directorate general of light house and light ships (dgll) that two of their employees are stranded at the vengurla rock island light house which has sustained damage during the cyclone 'Tauktae'.
'Both the personnel were not having water, food and electricity for past three days. Inclement near island made rescue a challenging task.
The indian coast guard district headquarters, goa swung into action and despite severe weather conditions with restricted visibility and clouds, coast guard helicopter was launched from goa at 1100 hours on 18 may 21. The helicopter reached the island in 25 min. The area around the light house was rocky and did not provide any safe landing and winching area, however in a daring operation indian coast guard chetak under took rough and restricted area hovering on a small open space. Both the stranded employees were winched up and taken onboard coast guard helicopter. Further the stranded personnel were flown to a pre-planned spot at coast guard air enclave, goa and handed over to light house authorities in healthy condition. Successful execution of this operation resulting in saving of precious life, reiterates the faith of the coastal community in the indian coast guard, which always lives up to it's motto 'Vayam Rakshamah' ' said the press release
