শুরু হয়েছে পুরান ঢাকার ঐতিহ্যবাহী সাকরাইন উৎসব। অনেকের কাছে এটা আবার ঘুড়ি ওড়ানোর উৎসব নামেও পরিচিত। দুই দিনব্যাপী সাকরাইন উৎসবের প্রথম দিনে নানা রংয়ের ঘুড়ি পুরান ঢাকার আকাশে ছেয়ে যায়। সন্ধ্যায় ওড়ানো ফানুসও।মঙ্গলবার ছিল উৎসবের প্রথম দিন। উৎসবের আমেজ পুরান ঢাকার সর্বত্র ছড়িয়ে পড়েছে। তবে অন্যান্য বছরের তুলনায় এ বছর শীতের কারণে কিছুটা ভিন্নতা দেখা গেছে।
ভোরবেলা কুয়াশার আবছায়াতেই ছাদে ছাদে শুরু হয় ঘুড়ি ওড়ানোর উৎসব। ছোট-বড় সকলেই মেতেছে এ আনন্দে। বেলা বাড়ার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে বাড়ে উৎসবের জৌলুস। আর শীতের বিকালে ঘুড়ির কাটাকাটি খেলার উত্তাপ বাড়তি আনন্দ দেয়। মাঝে মাঝে ঘুড়ি কেটে গেলে পরাজিত ঘুড়ির উদ্দেশ্যে ধ্বনিত হচ্ছিল ভোকাট্ট লোট শব্দ।
প্রায় এক দশক আগে প্রতিটি বাড়ির ছাদে ছাদে থাকতে মাইকের আধিপত্য। তবে সময়ের সঙ্গে সঙ্গে আর আধুনিকতার সংস্পর্শে মাইকের স্থান দখল করেছে আধুনিক সাউন্ড সিস্টেম।
এই উৎসবটি প্রায় ৪০০ বছর ধরে পালন করে আসছে পুরান ঢাকার বিভিন্ন স্তরের মানুষ। তরুণদের সঙ্গে ছোট-বড় সব বয়স্ক মানুষকে দেখা গেছে নিজ নিজ বাড়ির ছাদে ঘুড়ি ওড়াতে। মেয়েদেরকেও দেখা গেছে ছেলেদের সঙ্গে পাল্টা দিয়ে ঘুড়ি ওড়াতে। কমতি নেই আতশবাজি আর সাউন্ড সিস্টেমের। প্রায় প্রতিটি বাড়ির ছাদেই দেখা যায় ছেলে-মেয়েদের ঘুড়ি ওড়াতে। একই সঙ্গে আতশবাজি ফুটিয়ে বাংলা বছরের পৌষকে বিদায় জানাচ্ছে। সাউন্ড সিস্টেমের সঙ্গে সঙ্গে তাল মিলিয়ে চল নাচ গানের আনন্দও। দেখে মনে হয় এ যেন এক ঈদের আনন্দ।

পুরান ঢাকার দয়াগঞ্জ, মুরগিটোলা, কাগজিটোলা, গেন্ডারিয়া, বাংলাবাজার, ধূপখোলা মাঠ, জগন্নাথ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এলাকা, শাখারিবাজার, সদরঘাট, কোটকাচারী, শিংটোলা এলাকার বিভিন্ন স্থান ঘুরে দেখা যায় সাকরাইন উৎসব পালনের চিত্র।
সাকরাইন উৎসবকে ঘিরে বেশ কদিন আগে থেকেই পুরান ঢাকার বেশির ভাগ গলি আর খোলা ছাদে চলছিল সুতা মাঞ্জা দেয়ার ধুম। রোদে সুতা শুকানোর কাজও চলে পুরোদমে।
