ICC Announced The July Nominees For The Player Of The Month Award And More Cricket News

The International Cricket Council (ICC) today announced the July nominees for the ICC Player of the Month awards, instituted in January this year to recognise the best international performances across formats for male and female cricketers.

The nominees for the monthly men’s awards this time are Shakib Al Hasan (BAN), Mitchell Marsh (AUS) and Hayden Walsh Jr (WI) while Hayley Matthews (WI), Fatima Sana (PAK) and Stafanie Taylor (WI) figure in the women’s shortlist.

Michael Vaughan has suggested that England should drop their no. 3 Zak Crawley going into the second Test match against India at Lord’s which starts on Thursday, August 12. Crawley has been in terrible form with the bat since scoring his highest Test score of 267 runs against Pakistan in Southampton last summer.

Former Australian captain Michael Clarke has expressed that England won’t be able to win the Ashes in Australia later this year, without their speedster Jofra Archer. The 26-year-old has been struggling with injuries in recent times. He has been in and out of action since the start of the year. A few days ago, it was confirmed that he will not return until the end of this year.

Indians Fans Misses Bhuvneshwar Kumar As Indian Pacers Toils Hard on Day 3 OF WTC Final

After starting decently on the second day in testing conditions, India lost the plot completely on the third morning. New Zealand bowlers, especially Kyle Jamieson, wrecked havoc to pick up his fifth five-wicket haul as India were skittled for 217 runs in their first innings. However, with favourable conditions on offer, the Indian pacers were also expected to reap rewards with the dukes ball.

But it wasn’t to be. The ball hardly swung for the likes of Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah while Ishant Sharma managed to swing a bit only to be ineffective. They were a tad short in their lengths and the Kiwi openers looked comfortable during their 70-run partnership in the middle. It was Ravi Ashwin who provided the much-needed breakthrough while Devon Conway threw his wicket away at the fag end of the day.

When Tom Latham and Conway were batting, the Indian fans got restless with not many runs on the board. Many were surprised to see the ball not swinging at all and they started missing their ace swing bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar who is a master at making the ball talk through the air and off the pitch.

Bhuvi hasn’t played Test cricket since January 2018 and one of the main reasons for the same has been his constant injury concerns. For some reason or the other, Bhuvneshwar has been on the sidelines and with India’s fast bowling pool ready which was evident on Australia tour, it seems that he could be restricted to playing only limited-overs formats.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar not picked in squad for England tour
Interestingly, Bhuvneshwar Kumar is not even in the squad for the WTC Final and the England tour. The man himself had expressed of making a comeback in the Test format after returning from injury earlier this year for the England series at home. However, it seems as if India have started to look beyond him given his consistent injury concerns.

Though he is not in England, Bhuvi was trending on Twitter on Sunday evening as Ind

With Suryakumar Yadav and Prithvi Shaw all set to travel to England for the Indian team’s five-match Test series, fans, critics, and experts expected fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar too to be in the team. While initially there were rumors that he won’t play in the red-ball format, later Kumar cleared the air by stating he will play in the longest format of the game for India sooner rather than later.

The 31-year-old last donned the whites for India in 2018 against South Africa. Since then, he has been hit by injuries, which has made his return to the Test team a bit difficult. Young fast bowlers such as Mohammed Siraj, T Natarajan, and Shardul Thakur too have entered the scene, which has made selectors choosing Kumar a bit of a problem.

Now it has been learned that a call on Bhuvneshwar Kumar playing in the red-ball format will be taken after the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021. If sources are to be believed, then the right-hand bowler’s name was also discussed as a replacement player for the England series as well as, the World Test Championship (WTC) Final.

“The board had a discussion with Bhuvneshwar. It has been decided that he won’t be pushed to play Test cricket before the T20 World Cup. He has to first play three-four First-Class games. He hasn’t played a longer format for over three years. There’s a chance of him breaking down if he suddenly resumes playing Test cricket,” a top BCCI official told TOI.
