3rd day of the Rabobank Hockey World Cup and its Australia v. Spain from Men's Pool A.
The first half and it was advantage Australia when they converted an early chance supplied by Turner to Tim Deavin to put 1-0 Australia. It was pretty much Australia at this point on the attack and were later awarded a Penalty Stroke when an Australian Penalty Corner was superbly saved by Quico Cortes, but the ball hit off the body of Bosco Perez-Pla, and referee, after Spain asked for a referral, awarded a Penalty Stroke. Captain Mark Knowles was on hand to convert it. Australia continued their attack and was again awarded another Penalty Stroke when the ball came off the foot of Ramon Alegre, and Spain was unable to use their Video Referral as it was used for the previous penalty stroke. It was soon 3-0 to Australia when a Penalty Corner was converted in and it was Kieran Govers, who was the man that drag-flicked the ball in the net before the break.
2nd Half, and scores remained as it was but Australia managed to conjure up a couple of chance and came very close when Graham Tuner received the ball in the D but his shot went wide of the post. Australia had another chance to extend their lead when Jacob Whetton took the ball round the keeper but the angle was too tight and his shot went wide. Spain did create some chances after the break but it would Australia taking the point's home, 3-0. .

Spain didn't waste time in levelling the scores and Eduard Tabau scored from a speculative long shot in the 37th minute which England contested with an unsuccessful video referral. The game began to swing back and forth rapidly and England again hit the post, followed immediately by Spain's David Alegre hitting the sideboard after a mazy run. At the start of day 7, both Spain and Belgium had it all to play for with both sides needing the win to keep them in contention in Group A.
It was soon evident that it was to be Belgium's day though, when Cosyns opened the scoring inside 13 minutes through a penalty goal. A second penalty goal followed three minutes later with, this time, de Saedeleer converting well. The Belgium pressure continued and the Red Lions were creating good chances seemingly a will, culminating in a goal a minute from half time with Stockbroekx turning well to create space for the shot and firing in well.
In the second half it didn't take long for Belgium to continue where they left off in the first and they scored inside the first 3 minutes of the half, Cosyns adding his second from a penalty corner. The fifth from Belgium followed 10 minutes later, when Boon's shot from a penalty corner was saved, Dohmen was on hand to knock in the rebound and make it 5. Credit to Spain though as and two late goals gave the score a more respectable look to it. The first a penalty goal by Tubau and the second a lovely flowing team move finished off from close range by Santi Freixa.
