An engrossing tale, Vishal Bharadwaj's Dedh Ishqiya revolves around Khalu who after betraying and deserting Babban moves to a feudal town to participate in beauteous Begum Para's swayamvar. Through rounds of romantic and sometimes sardonic wit and eloquent shayari as well as a shooting contest, Khalujan tries to woo and impress Para. But what is a love story without a twist? Babban soon arrives to put a spanner in the works of Khalujan's romantic tryst. The two eventually patch up but unbeknownest to them, the scheming Para and her wily accomplice Muniya, have a plan up their sleeves. And of course to make matters worse there is the villain Jaan Mohammed. Based in Mahmudabad, a small town and in the Muslim social milieu, director Abhishek Chaubey masterfully puts the uncle-nephew pairing in a unique setting and a new situation.
