അന്റാർട്ടിക് സമുദ്രാന്തർ ഭാഗത്തു നിരീക്ഷണം നടത്തിയിരുന്ന ഗവേഷകരുടെ മുന്നിലേക്ക് അത്ഭുതവും കൌതുകവും ഉണര്‍ത്തുന്ന ഒരു അപൂര്‍വ ജീവി എത്തി . കണ്ടാല്‍ തലയില്ലാത്ത കോഴിയെ പോലെ തോന്നുന്ന ജീവി .ആദ്യമായിട്ടാണ് അന്റാർട്ടിക് സമുദ്രമേഖലയിൽ ഈ ജീവിയെ കണ്ടെത്തുന്നത്.സീ കുക്കുമ്പർ അഥവാ കടൽപ്പുഴു എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഇവയെ മുൻപ് ഗൾഫ് ഓഫ് മെക്സിക്കൻ മേഖലയിൽ കണ്ടെത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.എനിപ്നെയാസ്റ്റെസ് എക്സിമിയ എന്നാണ് ഇവയുടെ ശാസ്ത്രനാമം. കടലിന്നടിത്തട്ടിലൂടെ വളരെ പതിയെയാണ് ഇവയുടെ സഞ്ചാരം. ശരീരത്തിലുള്ള ടെന്റക്കിളാണ് ഇവയെ മണൽപ്പരപ്പിലൂടെ നീങ്ങാൻ സഹായിക്കുന്നത്. ശരീരത്തോട് ചേർന്ന് ചിറകുകൾ പോലുള്ള ഭാഗവും ഇവയ്ക്കുണ്ട്.അന്റാർട്ടിക് ഡിവിഷനിയെ ഗവേഷകരാണ് അപൂർവമായ ഈ ദൃശ്യങ്ങൾ കടലാഴങ്ങളിൽ നിന്ന് പകർത്തിയത്. ഇവർ സമൂഹമാധ്യമങ്ങളിൽ പങ്കുവച്ച ദൃശ്യങ്ങൾ വയരലായി കഴിഞ്ഞു .നക്ഷത്ര മത്സ്യങ്ങൾ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്ന എക്കാനോഡെർമറ്റ എന്ന കടജീവി വിഭാഗത്തിൽ പെടുന്നവയാണ് ഈ വിചിത്ര ജീവിയും. ഭൂരിഭാഗം സമയവും കടലിന്റെ അടിത്തട്ടിലാണ് ഇവ ജീവിക്കുന്നത്. കടലിന്റെ അടിത്തട്ടിലുള്ള ആൽഗകളാണ് ഇവയുടെ പ്രധാന ഭക്ഷണം.
