New Year's Eve 2013 has inspired the last doodle of the year. Upon hovering the mouse over this animated doodle, the text Happy New Year! is displayed.
Tuesday's doodle features numbers 2, 0, 1, and 3 on the dance floor with the number 4 waiting along the sides, waiting for its turn to replace 3. The dance floor is made up of little squares that are changing colours, designed to represent the floor lights in various colours. The word Google is seen sandwiched between two speakers, with the second O replaced by a disco ball.
Also present on the Google home page is the text 'What did the world search for this year? Remember the moments of 2013', with a link to the Google Zeitgeist 2013. This has of course been seen for a while, and is not a new addition.
Though the latest Google doodle looks interactive, we tried various browsers and we couldn't get the doodle to do anything except show Google search results for New Year's Eve 2013. The first result is a Google search card that says, 'Tuesday, December 31 New Year's Eve 2013', similar to what you get while searching for other important days like Diwali 2013 on Google India, or Memorial Day 2013 on the Google US homepage.
The rest of the page looks like any other Google results page, with news, image and search results for the query New Year's Eve 2013. Many search results refer to fireworks planned on New Year's Ev

Dian Fossey is the subject of Thursday's Google doodle celebrating the 82th birth anniversary of the American zoologist.
Google is known for its innovative doodles, and the latest one is no different. The Dian Fossey doodle has a large number of gorillas with Fossey depicted as taking notes, and a gorilla stroking her hair. The Google doodle also has a plane flying over the mountains.
Born in California in 1932, Dian Fossey undertook a virtual lifelong study of gorillas with the majority of her work being focussed in Africa, particularly in Congo and in Rwanda. Amongst her works, she is widely credited for writing the book Jamie in the Mist, which details her personal research in Rwanda. Dian Fossey's works also detail the social structure in gorillas, the lifestyle, the habitats and the behaviour of the primates. She worked on the same in Africa from 1963 till her death in 1985.
Dian Fossey began working with gorillas in Africa under the advice of anthropologist Louis Leakey. The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International, an organisation dedicated to protection and conservation of gorillas, mentions that it was a love for animals that paved the way for her from being a veterinarian to eventually a zoologist.
In addition Diane Fossey's work was also aimed at ending poaching of the animals. In 1985, Dian Fossey was murdered in her apartment in Rwanda, and it believed she was killed by locals over her anti-

To speak of Nelson Mandela in mortal terms is trying to eclipse the shadow of a person who showed that it was easier to rebuild a nation using love and peace rather than hate and war. Honouring the same spirit of the late South African president, Google on Friday released its latest doodle celebrating the 96th birth anniversary of the charismatic leader. The interactive doodle showcases different stages of Mandela's life, along with quotes from his autobiography, The Long Walk to Freedom.
Nelson Mandela, better known as 'Madiba' and 'Tata' amongst his South African supporters, was born July 18 1918 as Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela to the Thembu royal family. He died last year on December 5 after suffering from pulmonary infection - he was 95 years old then. Mandela, who was also a boxer in his younger days, first became a part of the ANC (African National Congress) and rose to prominence during the ANC's Defiance Campaign in 1952. He started his law practice in 1949, and was majorly involved in helping set free those members of the ANC convicted by the state.
Mandela was unsuccessfully persecuted by the state up until the time he co-founded the armed wing of the ANC - Umkhonto we Sizwe (Spear of the Nation). He was arrested for a sabotage campaign against the apartheid government in 1962 - then convicted, tried and sentenced to life imprisonment. Nelson Mandela first served time at Robben Island, then at Pollsmoor prison and fi

Maria Montessori's 142nd birth anniversary has become the subject of the latest Google doodle. Maria Montessori was an Italian physician and educator, best known for the philosophy of education which bears her name. Her educational methods are in use today in public and private schools throughout the world.
The Google doodle itself represents various tools that form an integral part of Montessori education methods.
Maria Montessori was born on August 31, 1870, in Chiaravalle, Italy. Her family later moved to Rome in 1875, where she was enrolled in a public elementary school when she was 6. Montessori was not a particular brilliant student early on, but that during her teens. She graduated from the technical school Regia Scuola Tecnica Michelangelo Buonarroti at the age of 20 and decided to study medicine further on, which was unheard of for females at the time.
After completing a pre-qualification course and overcoming a lot of hurdles, Maria Montessori enrolled for the medical program at the University of Rome in 1893. Here troubles didn't end there, as she faced discrimination from fellow students and faculty because of her gender. But Montessori carried on, winning an academic prize in her first year, and later securing a position as a hospital assistant, gaining early clinical experience. In her last two years she studied paediatrics and psychiatry, and worked in the paediatric consulting room and emergency service,

The 46th Anniversary of Star Trek: The Original Series is honoured by an interactive Google doodle featuring characters from the iconic science fiction series.
Each of Google's letters is marked by a Star crew member with a storyline weaved into the doodle taking cues from the episode and the show. The letter 'G' in the Google logo is Spock, one if the most memorable character from the series. The first 'O' represents the character of Nyota Uhura and the second 'O' features Captain James T Kirk, the commanding officer of the USS Enterprise. The letter 'L' resembles Hikaru Sulu.
Googlers will have to make their way throughout the doodle to uncover the story. The doodle begins in the bridge of the Starship Enterprise. Clicking on the red door helps 'O' and 'E' go out to the transporter room. Clicking the main console in the room beams them to an unfriendly planet where they are challenged by an alien.
Users can click on the nearby tree to attack the alien and another object towards the top to completely defeat the extra terrestrial. On defeating the enemy they return to the Enterprise. The doodle ends with the USS starship Enterprise moving past the screen in space and the word Google appearing in yellow, written in pure Star Trek style. The iconic instrumental theme from Star Trek by Alexander Courage plays in the background.

Clara Schumann's 193rd birth anniversary is the subject of the latest Google doodle. Clara Schumann was a German musician and composer. She was born on September 13, 1819 and was considered to be one of the most distinguished pianists of the Romantic era.
Today's doodle has Clara Schumann surrounded by her eight children, all of whom are seen playing the piano. There is an effective use of lively colours - blue, red, yellow and green to form the letters 'Google'.
Clara's parents separated when she was just four and was raised by her father Friedrich Wieck. She was inspired by her father and learnt the ropes of playing a piano. Her first performance was at the age of eight at the Leipzig home of Dr. Ernst Carus, director of a mental hospital at Colditz Castle. It is here that she met her future spouse and gifted pianist Robert Schumann. Schumann was nine years elder to Clara. He was so impressed with her performance that he left his studies to learn the piano from Clara's father.
Clara was considered to be a child prodigy and her music was famous all across Europe. When Clara was eighteen, she performed a series of recitals in Vienna between December 1837 and April 1838. This is how Clara felt about composing music, 'Composing gives me great pleasure...there is nothing that surpasses the joy of creation, if only because through it one wins hours of self-forgetfulness, when one lives in a world of sound.&qu

Ada Lovelace, born Augusta Ada Byron, was an English mathematician and writer widely known for her work on Charles Babbage's early mechanical general-purpose computer, the Analytical Engine. She worked on what is believed to be the first algorithm intended to be processed by a machine, making her the world's first known computer programmer.
Charles Babbage was an English mathematician, considered to be the father of the computer. He first proposed the use of a mechanical computer in 1822 for computing in the fields of astronomy and mathematics. He received funding from British government to build such a machine in 1823, and spent the next several years trying to build the Difference Engine.
By the time the government killed the project in 1842, they had given Babbage over ₤17,000, without receiving a working engine. By then, Babbage had moved on to building his more general purpose Analytical Engine, something he first described in 1837.
The Analytical Engine consisted of an arithmetic logic unit, control flow in the form of conditional branching and loops, and integrated memory, a design that continues to form the backbone of modern-day computers.
Ada Lovelace met and corresponded with Charles Babbage on many occasions, including socially and in relation to Babbage's Difference Engine and Analytical Engine. Ada became fascinated with his Difference Engine and translated Italian mathematician
