A Dustbin full of plastic in SMC's meeting was opposed by Congress members

સુરત મહાનગર પાલિકા દ્વારા પ્લાસ્ટિકની કોથળીઓ, પાણીના પાઉચ અને પ્લાસ્ટિકના ચાના કપ પર પ્રતિબંધ મુકવામા આવ્યો છે. આ પ્રતિબંધ દરમિયાન કોઈ વેપારી કે દુકાનદાર પાસેથી પ્લાસ્ટિકનો જથ્થો પકડાઈ તો સુરત મહાનગર પાલિકા દ્વારા તેમની પાસેથી દંડની વસુલાત કરવામાં આવતી હોય છે,પરંતુ પ્લાસ્ટિક પર પ્રતિબંધ હોવા છતાં સુરત મહાનગર પાલિકાની કચરા પેટીઓ પ્લાસ્ટિકથી ભરેલી જોવા મળે છે.

સુરત મહાનગર પાલિકાની કચરા પેટી પ્લાસ્ટિકથી ભરેલી હોવાને કારણે સુરત મહાનગર પાલિકાની સામાન્ય સભામાં કોંગ્રેસના કોર્પોરેટરો દ્વારા વિરોધ કરવામાં આવ્યો હતો. વિરોધ કરતા-કરતા કોંગ્રેસી કોર્પોરેટર નિલેશ કુંભાણીએ સામાન્ય સભામાં મેયરની સામે પ્લાસ્ટિકથી ભરેલી કચરા પેટી ખાલી કરી હતી. આ ઘટનાને લઈ સામાન્ય સભામાંથી નિલેશ કુંભાણીને સસ્પેન્ડ કરવામાં આવ્યા હતા. સસ્પેન્ડ થયેલા કોર્પરેટર નિલેશ કુંભાણીએ તેમના કાર્યકર્તાઓ સાથે સામાન્ય સભાની બહાર પ્લાસ્ટિકના કચરાને સાથે લઈ ભાજપ હાય હાયના નારા લગાવીને વિરોધ પ્રદર્શન કર્યું હતું.
