The score was locked at 1-1 and the match looked to be headed towards extra time before a certain Ravi Rana decided to take matters into his own hands, or rather feet. Sensing an opening, he sent down a thunderous effort from 30 yards that rifled into the top corner – ensuring that India clinched the match and as a result, their first-ever SAFF U18 title as well in the process.
'There was a lot of emotion involved in the final. We were disappointed after drawing against Bangladesh and were determined to make things right in the final. I saw the angle was open for the shot and I'm glad the ball sailed in. It was a really special moment for me and I'm glad I could contribute to the victory,' the youngster said while recalling his heroics from September this year.
Born in Jammu, a young Ravi followed his brothers and developed a love for the beautiful game at a very young age. He recalled, 'I have three elder brothers and I started playing football seeing them. We used to play on the roof our house all the time and when I turned nine, I joined a local club named Shaheen.'
He moved to Jamshedpur in 2016 to pursue his footballing dream and just a year later, he broke into the junior national team set-up and made an explosive debut in Indian colours in the SAFF U15 Championship, scoring a hattrick in a 9-0 win against the Maldives.
Rana was also a vital part of the side that reached the quarterfinals of the AFC U16 Championships last year - starting in all four matches for coach Bibiano Fernandes' team.

Though the tournament is for the Under-15 category, India fielded its Under-16 team for this year's Championship. The Colts were grouped with Maldives and host Nepal in Group B while Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka occupied Group A.
The India U-15 National Team defeated host nation Nepal 1-2 to clinch the SAFF U-15 Championship title in the final that took place at ANFA Complex, Lalitpur in Nepal.
The South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Under-15 Championship for boys kick started on August 18, 2017, at Nepal. As many as six nations participated in the tournament where each of the sides was divided into two pools comprising three teams each.
The SAFF Under-15 Championship is a continuity of the earlier SAFF Under-16 Championship. The motive behind the change is to allow teams to be better prepared for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-16 qualifiers to be held later this year.

The Indian U-16 National Team currently on an exposure trip in Wei Nan City, China faced the hosts today (July 03, 2018) in a Four-Nation International Tournament and lost 1-0 against the Chinese U-17 National Team.
Hosts China came out strong in the early minutes of the match, but the Indian defence line held them at bay. Goalkeeper Biaka made two crucial saves in the 16th and 17th minute to keep India in the match.
The Indian colts gradually found their footing in the match and in the 30th minute almost took the lead when Ridge De’Mello’s rasping shot hit the woodwork and went out. In the 40th minute, Vikram’s shot from range missed the target as the Colts pressed to secure advantage.
However, it were the hosts who took the lead in the 42nd minute and held onto it for the half as the half-time scoreline read 1-0 in China’s favour.
Playing against older opponents had little effect on the Indian colts and Bibiano Fernandes’s boys get back into attacking mode immediately. Ridge De’Mello proved to be a constant threat for the Chinese defence line and his shot tested the opponent custodian early in the second half, often.

Needing an outright win to remain alive in the SAFF Championship, the Indian football team will take on host Maldives in its final round-robin league match on Wednesday.
A draw or a loss will see seven-time champion India miss the final, which could further raise questions on head coach Igor Stimac's future with the team.
India's worst performance SAFF Championship so far was the third-place finish in 2003 and the team has either won or finished runner-up in 11 previous editions. All the four top sides in the five-team tournament remain in contention for the October 16 final.

With five points from two draws and one win, India is currently placed third below Maldives (six points from three matches) and Nepal (six points from three matches). Nepal plays Bangladesh (fourth place with four points) in an earlier match on Wednesday.
Two-time and defending champion Maldives has never been easy opponents for India in the history of this regional tournament though the island country sits 51 ranking points below India in FIFA chart at 158th.
The side led by veteran Ali Ashfaq, one of the best strikers in the region, has regrouped after losing its opening match against Nepal by beating Bangladesh 2-0 and Sri Lanka 1-0.
Just like India captain Sunil Chhetri, the 36-year-old Ashfaq has carried Maldives football on his shoulders for a long time and has scored two of his side's three goals in this tournament. He will, no doubt, be the man India will have to be wary about.
India felt the absence of experienced Sandesh Jhingan in deep defence as it could not defend a 1-0 lead against 10-man Bangladesh, which scored a late equaliser despite numerical inferiority.
