അമേരിക്കയിലെ സെന്‍ട്രല്‍ ഫ്‌ളോറിഡ സര്‍വകലാശാലയിലാണ് 'ചൊവ്വാ മണ്ണില്‍' ധാന്യം വിളയിക്കാനുള്ള ശ്രമം പുരോഗമിക്കുന്നത്. ആവശ്യക്കാര്‍ക്ക് ചൊവ്വായിലെ മണ്ണ് കിലോയ്ക്ക് 20 ഡോളര്‍ എന്ന നിരക്കില്‍ വാങ്ങാനും അവസരമുണ്ട്. ചൊവ്വയിലെയും മറ്റ് ഗ്രഹങ്ങളിലെയും മണ്ണ് സൃഷ്ടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന അവിടുത്ത ഗവേഷകര്‍ അത് വില്‍പ്പനയ്ക്ക് വെച്ചിരിക്കുകയാണ്. കൃത്രിമമായി സൃഷ്ടിച്ചെടുത്തിട്ടുള്ള ഈ മണ്ണിന് കിലോയ്ക്ക് 20 ഡോളറാണ് വില.ശാസ്ത്രീയാടിസ്ഥാനത്തില്‍ സൃഷ്ടിക്കപ്പെട്ടതാണ് ഈ മണ്ണ്. ചൊവ്വയില്‍ നിന്നും നാസയുടെ ക്യൂരിയോസിറ്റി റോവര്‍ ശേഖരിച്ച മണ്ണില്‍ അടങ്ങിയിരിക്കുന്ന രാസവസ്തുക്കള്‍ വേര്‍തിരിച്ച്‌ സമാനമായ രാസവസ്തുക്കളുടെ ചേരുവയിലാണ് കൃത്രിമ മണ്ണ് തയ്യാറാക്കിയിട്ടുള്ളത് .
കിലോയ്ക്ക് 20 ഡോളര്‍ നിരക്കില്‍ 30 ലധികം ഓര്‍ഡറുകളാണ് ഗവേഷണ സ്ഥാപനത്തിന് കിട്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നത്. ഇതില്‍ ഒരു ഓര്‍ഡര്‍ അമേരിക്കയിലെ തന്നെ കെന്നഡി സ്പേസ് സെന്ററാണ്. അര ടണ്ണാണ് ചോദിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്.ചൊവ്വയിലേക്ക് യാത്ര പോകാനിരിക്കെ ഇത്തരം ഗവേഷണങ്ങള്‍ ഗുണകരമാണെന്ന് യുസിഎഫ് പ്ളാനറ്ററി സയന്‍സസ് ഗ്രൂപ്പ് പറയുന്നു.
